Hope Raisers is a Community Interest Company created to provide social work, education, care and art facilities and support those with similar projects in the Norfolk and Suffolk area. Hope Raisers has been working in partnership with a local church in Diss called Hope Church and a national charity called Hope Into Action to facilitate the purchase of a house in Diss to house vulnerable adults with learning difficulties. Hope Raisers has a 5.71% share in the ‘Hope Raisers House Trust’, made up of 14 investors from the local community, which has purchased a two bedroom house. Hope Raisers has leased the property from the trust for a five year period and now houses two adults with leaning difficulties who were facing homelessness following the death of their mother who was their sole carer. Hope Raisers has employed a Support Worker for eight hours per week to directly support the tenants and manage a volunteer group that acts as a friendship and support for the tenants.
Hope Raisers consulted with Samphire Homes, Hope Church and Hope Into Action to identify and find tenants for the property that were in immediate risk of homelessness and needed urgent support. Through this we identified two tenants who would have been at high risk of cuckooing if placed into a regular housing association property with no additional support. We are now in a consultation process with Hope Church, Hope Into Action and other local charities to identify where the biggest need is for further houses to be managed using the same model.
