Year Ending: 30 September 2024

Company activities and impact

Bridging the Green CIC has been developing two of its services within its first year as a registered CIC. Community Horticultural Workshops: Activities include delivery of community gardening workshop to a local community within north London. Outcomes of this project include access to previously unused green space and opportunity to create a garden area, plant and food production workshops and new public engagement with local groups and residents within the target area. Since September 2024, the organisation has initiated a new community gardening/landscape design project within a housing estate and is currently delivering public engagement to identify social needs. This project is in partnership with LB Islington. Outcomes will include sensory gardens for senior residents and members of the community who suffer from dementia. Horticultural Training: Bridging the Green CIC has registered as a UK Registered Learning Provider and has delivered a pilot staff based horticultural training programme to local park teams. Outcomes include identification of skills required to improve existing team capabilities, project evaluation (shared with partner group), practical training/implementation within local parks. As a trial project, this training has enabled Bridging the Green to identify key areas for future service delivery and implement methodology to alleviate localised climate impact within urban areas. The training service is currently being reviewed with further potential employment service organisations to provide skills and working experience for unemployed people within the north London area. Bridging the Green director/founder (Sacha Austin) was accepted on to the Big Issue 'Power Up London' programme to obtain learning and skills to support the organisation's early-stage business growth. The programme caters to social trading organisations that are addressing social and/or environmental issues by providing services to marginalised communities in London. (supported by the Mayor of London & UK Government). In addition, Sacha Austin continues to participate in charity Big Alliance 'Leaders in Partnership 'programme and works with a consortium of skilled business leaders to develop strategic business outcomes for Bridging the Green CIC.

Consultation with stakeholders

LB Islington: stakeholders were consulted with regard to delivery of the Horticultural training programme. Consultation included stakeholder owned locations, choice of training modules and staff participation. Final consultation including project evaluation will take place in January 2025. LB Islington: Thriving Neighbourhoods Programme - there has been no official consultation held. Expected consultation in 2025.
