The company provides, through the delivery of workshops, children's activities, nature walks and BioBlitz events, opportunities for communities to engage with nature, improve their knowledge of nature, and contribute to the protection and improvement of their local natural environment. The company started delivering services in April 2022. During the financial year 2023-2024, Budding Nature CIC's activities have benefited the community in the following ways: 1. Working with Penwith Landscape Partnership to deliver a programme of 6 workshops and a mini-BioBlitz (and ongoing online support) to members of the Penwith Wildlife Recorders' Group, helping them to provide support to local individuals and communities who are working to improve local biodiversity. 2. Delivering 14 workshops and ongoing online support to local volunteers on the Dynamic Dunescapes Cornwall project, helping them to establish the Dunes Recording Group, which -- now works with local conservation organisations, individuals and communities to help record and monitor biodiversity on Cornwall's sand dunes. 3. Delivering 9 wildlife identification workshops to members of the public via Cornwall Wildlife Trust's G7 Legacy Project. 4. Delivering 2 public workshops on behalf of the Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS), and 2 further ERCCIS workshops for volunteers at Newquay Community Orchard. 5. Delivering 5 wildlife identification workshops for students at the University of Exeter Penryn campus. 6. Delivering 4 workshops for the Wildflower Collective CIC, supporting volunteers involved in plant monitoring. 7. Delivering 1 workshop for Plantlife volunteers and 1 for CREST (Cornwall Rural Education & Skills Trust) volunteers. 8. Delivering 3 Introduction to Ecology workshop programmes (each comprised of 3 workshops) for the public, funded by a grant from Penwith Landscape Partnership. 9. Delivering 1 children's activity day for Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Kernow Glassa Project, helping children to engage with their natural environment. 10. Organising and delivering a 24-hour community BioBlitz event at Tehidy Country Park and a mini community BioBlitz at The Warren, Godrevy, and supporting the University of Exeter's Penryn campus BioBlitz 11. Leading, without charge, a wildflower walk for residents of Constantine and delivering a nature recovery talk for parish councillors and members of the community in Constantine. 12. Delivering a nature recovery talk for Zennor Women's Institute. 13. Providing volunteering opportunities with Budding Nature CIC for 4 local volunteers, who contributed a total of 218 hours of volunteer support to community events. A total of 714 participants attended Budding Nature CIC events in 2023-2024, comprised of 400 different individuals.
The company's stakeholders are local people and communities with an interest in nature, and the organisations with which we work to deliver services to them. We consulted closely with staff and volunteers from Penwith Landscape Partnership, Dynamic Dunescapes Cornwall and the G7 Legacy Project to develop workshop content appropriate to their ongoing development needs. We likewise regularly review and update the content of all our workshops and activities in response to participant feedback. Our Introduction to Ecology programme was developed after consultation with participants of previous workshops, with content designed to meet needs that they had identified. Towards the end of the financial year, we carried out consultations with community groups from the Treneere Estate in Penzance and the parishes of Constantine and Sancreed to develop a (subsequently successful) funding bid to the National Lottery's Awards for All programme to deliver a Connecting Nature Recovery Communities project, which will link up and support the three communities - consultations on project content are ongoing.
The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to directors in respect of qualifying services was £11,842.50.
