COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

THE CREATORS HOUSE LTD COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 13920142 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 28 February 2024

Company activities and impact

The Creators House Ltd Community Interest Company was set up to benefit the community, primarily adults, aspiring musicians and others/communities interested in the music industry in the Greater London area. The company was dormant during its first financial year (2022-23). In our second financial year (2023-24), we were fortunate to receive funding from the London Borough of Lambeth to deliver a free Winter After School activity programme for school-aged children and young people eligible for benefit-related Free School Meals. Financially disadvantaged families are under significant pressure due a combination of increasing costs and low incomes, meaning their children are less likely to access organised out-of-school activities and are more likely to experience social isolation. The programme took place over a 7 day period during the winter school holiday in 2023, with 15 places a day, a total of 105 participants across the programme. Our programme was devised to create an experience for young people that was not only enjoyable and interesting but would inspire them to consider a career in the music industry by giving them a basic overview of the processes involved in music technology, studio mixing, creating podcasts and videography. As an organisation based in Kennington, within the London Borough of Lambeth, we are proud to support and inspire financially disadvantaged young people from our local community to explore new skills in the creative industry, enabling them to have this experience free at the point of delivery, building their confidence, reducing social exclusion and feelings of isolation among young people who would not otherwise have been able to afford to access this activity. We also delivered a small one-off privately funded short course to local adults seeking a career in the music industry, helping them understand potential job opportunities that they could pursue and helping them channel their interests and passion for music. Our priority outcomes include the acquisition of social and technical skills and the promotion of social mobility and inclusion within the music and artistic sector.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are the local community in the London area, particularly in Kennington, and the London Borough of Lambeth where our community interest company is based, particularly those interested in a career in the music industry. We have consulted with the young people from local families facing financial hardship who attended our Winter After School activity programme funded by the London Borough of Lambeth, to understand the challenges they face and the support they need, to understand what activities and content they most enjoy and find most engaging, what builds their confidence. We have used this feedback to tailor our future activities, in order to reflect our ethos of building social mobility and inclusion within the music and creative sector. We have also consulted with the Integrated Commissioning Team within Children’s Services at The London Borough of Lambeth to ensure that we met their requirements and objectives in terms of the Winter After school activity programme that they provided grant funding for, including ensuring that the appropriate safeguarding procedures are in place, providing monitoring information regarding participants, and providing impact assessments at the end of the project. We were keen to build a good relationship with the team at Lambeth in order to be well-placed to apply for additional funding to allow us to continue increase our reach and social impact to potential participants in the future.
