Company activities and impact

Margate Pride is an arts and culture let community Pride that envisions a world where all LGBTQIA+ people live safely, joyfully and openly as our whole selves in the communities we call home. Margate Pride seeks to advance equity and justice for LGBTQIA+ people in all communities across Kent and beyond by harnessing our events, creative resources, fundraising and advocacy efforts to address root causes of discrimination impacting the LGBTQIA+ community. Supporting community leaders and organisations that work to eliminate long-standing barriers to equal access, opportunities and resources for LGBTQIA+ people and expanding and deepening the level of engagement among all LGBTQIA+ people and allies, including people who are economically, racially, socially, geographically, or politically disenfranchised. During the 2023/24 reporting year fundraising by the team enabled Margate Pride CIC to create 5 part time paid roles, two of which were recruited in 23/24. The 3 other posts were advertised and recruited to with start dates in early 2024/25. 28,000 people attended Pride events in 2023/24.

Consultation with stakeholders

Margate Pride is run by a team of LGBTQIA+ people – all with lived experience. We were previously run by a committee; however the model has changed to a team working part-time combined with a supportive Advisory Board who are consulted year round. We hold regular events and community socials to learn what the community wants and needs. We also conduct thorough feedback around our annual festival in August that provides us with detailed feedback for evaluation all of which informs how we work and operate and programme moving forwards.
