Social Innovation for All CIC (hereafter SI4A) has now been operating for two years. We are on a mission to unleash the creative potential of children and young people to address social challenges. We work with young people, schools and partners to design and deliver educational experiences that enable young people from all backgrounds to shape the future. During the fiscal (and academic) year 23-24 SI4A further developed both the Young Green Briton Challenge and the Eco Pioneers programme. We worked with a total of 3,690 students in 27 schools including: (1) 3175 secondary school students in 18 schools through the Young Green Briton Challenge 2023-24 (2) 515 primary school students in 9 schools through the Eco Pioneers programme The broader reach and impact of initiatives designed by the students is estimated to be over 20,000 people, including the wider school population, parents, teachers, local councillors and the local community. Both programmes build knowledge around sustainability, transferable skills and opportunity. The programmes both achieved Skills Builder Level 3 accreditation in 2024, demonstrating that they enable students to develop their Teamwork, Communication, Problem Solving and Creativity Skills. More detailed impact reports for both the Young Green Briton Challenge and Eco Pioneers are attached.
Both the Young Green Briton Challenge and the Eco Pioneers programmes were designed and continue to be delivered in collaboration with a range of different stakeholders including teachers, young people, funders and other not for profit organisations (particularly our delivery partners – GenEarth and the Ministry of Eco Education in 2023/24). We gather feedback from all of our stakeholders to both improve the programmes in real time and to undertake evaluation at the end of each academic year. This includes asking schools to share an anonymous student survey with all participants and surveying teachers and volunteers (through GenEarth). The survey data is included in the attached impact reports and has informed the development of the new programme for 2024-25. In May 2024 we also recruited two board members (Directors), as key stakeholders within SI4A.
The Executive Director (also on the Board of Directors) works nearly full-time for SI4A and received remuneration of £16,667 over the full financial year. The remuneration was related to programme delivery, primarily for the Young Green Briton Challenge. The Board of Directors have set a target of being able to progressively increase the Executive Director’s salary over the next three years to support the long term sustainability of SI4A and to ensure SI4A is at least a Real Living Wage employer for all staff, including paid Directors.
