ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE |
Charitable activities |
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, new approaches to collaborating for the community have been adopted and put into practice. The UK national and local committees held regular virtual meetings to discuss the community's welfare and long-term impacts of the pandemic. |
As per previous years, virtual groups continue to provide seminars in healthy living and mental wellbeing to the community. These are via community professionals providing these services on a voluntarily basis. |
All services aligned to focus on delivery of essential services and support to all across the community to prepare and supply food and essential items for people who were self-isolating or shielding. Our East London centre, which is used by our Food4All division, become a larger hub of food preparation and delivery across London and the South East to the wider communities during the pandemic continues to prepare and serve meals to the homeless in and around London. |
Specific attention is continually provided to support bereaved families during the pandemic in general family support. |
The charity continues to collaborate with local management to identify areas for improvement. Local centres carry out a diverse range of activities in line with the charity's mission, and significant progress has been made as individual management teams collaborate in bringing new as well as previous held events back into the centres. |
New initiatives have been introduced for all age groups, including educating children on the basic principles of Sikhism and offering guidance, support and mentoring to older children and young adults as they navigate their career paths - e.g. some young members joining the police force and are allowed to wear their dastar (turban) whilst on duty. |
Additionally, professionals from the community have provided free advice and support to young families facing economic and social challenges, whilst assistance has also been extended to our older Sangat. |
