  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer returns, rebates and other similar allowances. Sale of goods Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods has transferred to the buyer. This is usually at the point that the customer has signed for the delivery of the goods. Rendering of services Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. Turnover is only recognised to the extent of recoverable expenses when the outcome of a contract cannot be estimated reliably.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

CLIMATE ACTION NORTH COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 10641867 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 28 February 2024

Company activities and impact

In the past year 2022 to 2023 we have undertaken the following activities:- Pollinator Parks We continue to market the Pollinator Parks programme to communities and are currently in discussions with Dalton Park about creating more pollinator park areas within their site to benefit the local community in and around Dalton Park area. We are also discussing a new Pollinator Parks space at the North East Business Innovation Centre in Sunderland. Business Resilience – Training Academy We have recently discontinued the Business Action Toolkit and have in it’s place formed a new training course which will be approved by the CPD in December 2024 to be delivered to communities. This along with another 4 courses will form the basis of the Climate Action North Training Academy offer which will promote to communities, businesses and individuals who wish to participate in the training. Our Rewilding Nature & Us training is becoming very popular with communities as they want to learn about rewilding and to find out how they can make a difference in the climate and biodiversity crises. We are continuing to market the training courses with a view to generating longer term sustainable income for the community interest company which will then be reinvested into projects and programmes. Networking We secured funding from Rewilding Britain which enabled us to set up the North East Rewilding Network – this is an online community with members who interact with each other on the Mighty Platform and also take part in events and in person site visits to members projects. The Network will be celebrating it’s one year in existence with a gathering on 5th December and which will also help to recruit further members. In June 2023 for World Environment and World Oceans Day we held an in person conference which attracted over 80 delegates and was hugely successful. Throughout the year we have continued to hold corporate sponsors events which have included beach cleans, tree planting days and also wellbeing walks. Programmes Global Wilders - we continue to recruit schools and communities for the Global Wilders programme and have schools on board to take part in projects to earn their Global Wilders Award such as Hog Wilders (for helping the hedgehogs), Tree Wilders, for tree planting, Ocean Wilders for learning about the ocean and it’s importance and Bee Wilders, to learn about the importance of bees in the ecosystem. Funded projects - We secured funding from Rewilding Britain and were able to recruit a part time Office Admin Manager who continues to work with us on a part time basis subject to future secured funding. Book Wilding Online events – We continue to run the Book Wilding events on a monthly basis showcasing the many books about rewilding, nature and climate change. Blogs & Storytelling – we continue to use the medium of storytelling and blogs as a means of telling our Climate Action North story, we consider the blogs to be an extremely important and powerful tool in conveying our message and which works really well as PR and Marketing support service too. All of our blogs can be found on our website Blog - Climate Action North Directors Meetings - We continue to hold monthly directors meetings and meetings to discuss direction of the community interest company. We also liaise with our corporate sponsors who support and advise us on the social value of the services we provide to them as an organisation and to their staff as volunteers for many of the activities we run. We secured support services to help design a new website and this is now up and running. This is greatly helping to promote the services we offer and how we can continue to support our communities. www.climateactionnortheast.org.uk

Consultation with stakeholders

Our main stakeholders continue to be our corporate sponsors and we continue to consult with them as well as engaging regularly with the wide community, schools, businesses, and all interested parties. We are also working with many other social enterprises and have the full support of Social Enterprise UK which we continue to maximise and connect with. Each time we run events or projects we obtain feedback and this in turn, drives our passion, enthusiasm and ability to develop new projects, continue with successful projects and connect with other organisations across the region to make a much bigger impact. We consider our work here at Climate Action North to be extremely important in achieving social impact, inspiring and supporting many communities and stakeholders as well as inspiring them to take climate action.
