Company activities and impact

The purpose of Betaminds CIC is to support the personal, social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of marginalised groups, particularly youth and families in Hackney and surrounding areas. We aim to create safe, supportive spaces for individuals who face systemic challenges. We work to build resilience in younger children and bridge generational gaps by fostering intergenerational connections. By providing accessible and inclusive spaces for support, dialogue, and inspiration, Betaminds CIC strives to promote well-being, combat isolation, and empower individuals to overcome barriers in education, employment, and social integration. During the financial year 2022-2023, Betaminds delivered impactful projects and activities that significantly benefited the community, with a particular focus on youth and marginalised groups. The My Torch is LIT project engaged over 200 young people and marginalised individuals, fostering personal growth, empowerment, and inclusion. Through this initiative, we collected anonymous diary entries and shared inspiring Spotlight Stories from global minority professionals, creating a platform for participants to share their voices and build resilience. The project culminated in a community exhibition that celebrated these narratives, inspired attendees, and raised awareness of the challenges and triumphs faced by marginalised groups. We continued delivering CV and Employability workshops in both Islington and Hackney, reaching over 30 young people. These workshops provided participants with vital skills, including CV writing, interview techniques, and career planning, helping to prepare them for the workforce. Our partnership with La Sainte Union School was again another key highlight, where we delivered workshops during both the Summer and Easter holidays to over 180 students. New project additions, such as Identifying and Maintaining Positive Relationships and Enterprise, received glowing reviews and testimonials from teachers and students alike, highlighting their relevance and impact. Expanding our focus to intergenerational inclusion, we partnered with local organisations to run a Democracy project aimed at over 55s, to which we delivered to over 50 Hackney residents. Participants shared how having their voices heard made them feel seen and valued within the community. The project focused on understanding the views of individuals of Caribbean heritage while providing education on local and national government structures, fostering greater civic awareness and engagement. Through these diverse activities, we successfully empowered individuals across generations, promoted social inclusion, and supported personal, social, and emotional development. The feedback and testimonials we received highlight the meaningful and lasting impact of our work in the community.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders include young people, parents, teachers, school staff, over-55s, community organisations, and local residents, particularly those from marginalised and underrepresented groups. Consultation Process 1. Young People: Regular feedback was collected through surveys and focus groups during workshops such as My Torch is LIT, CV and Employability workshops, and school holiday programmes. Participants expressed a desire for more interactive sessions and practical applications, leading us to introduce projects such as Identifying and Maintaining Positive Relationships and Enterprise. 2. Parents and Teachers: Teachers and parents were consulted during and after workshops in schools to gather their perspectives on the content and delivery. This feedback emphasised the importance of addressing real-life challenges, such as healthy relationships and resilience, which influenced the topics we introduced. 3. Over-55s: For the Democracy project, local community organisations collaborated to facilitate group discussions with over 55s, focusing on their experiences and needs. Stakeholders highlighted the importance of creating spaces where they could share their perspectives on heritage and governance, which shaped the format of the project. 4. Community Organisations and Local Residents: Partnerships with community groups provided insights into the broader needs of the community, particularly around civic engagement and intergenerational connection. This collaboration informed the delivery approach and ensured alignment with the local context. Actions Taken Enhanced Project Offerings: Based on feedback from young participants, new workshops such as Enterprise and Identifying and Maintaining Positive Relationships were introduced, with a focus on practical and engaging content. Intergenerational Inclusion: In response to stakeholder requests for cross-generational projects, we launched initiatives such as the Democracy project, which allowed older residents to feel more connected to their community and governance systems. Improved Communication: Feedback from teachers and parents highlighted the need for clear communication about workshop outcomes. We now provide detailed summaries and testimonials to showcase the impact of our work. Our consultation process remains integral to our work, ensuring that we consistently adapt and respond to the evolving needs of our stakeholders.
