Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 March 2024

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable net of VAT and trade discounts. Sales of goods are recognised when goods are delivered, and title has passed.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost (or deemed cost) or valuation less accumulated depreciation and accumulated impairment losses. Cost includes costs directly attributable to making the asset capable of operating as intended by management. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset on a systematic basis over their expected useful lives as follows: - Buildings: 30 years on a straight-line basis - Plant and machinery: 25% straight line basis

    Other accounting policies

Income tax expense represents the sum of the tax currently payable and deferred tax. The tax currently payable is based on taxable profit for the year. Taxable profit differs from net profit as reported in the profit and loss account because it excludes items of income or expense that are taxable or deductible in other years and it further excludes items that are never taxable or deductible. The Company’s liability for current tax is calculated using tax rates that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date. Deferred tax is the tax expected to be payable or recoverable on differences between the carrying amount of assets and liabilities in the financial statements and the corresponding tax basis used in the computation of taxable profit, and is accounted for using the balance sheet liability method. Deferred tax liabilities are generally recognised for all taxable temporary differences and deferred tax assets are recognised to the extent that it is probable that taxable profits will be available against which deductible temporary differences can be utilised. Deferred tax is calculated at the tax rates that are expected to apply to the period when the liability is settled or the asset realised. Deferred tax is charged or credited in the statement of comprehensive income, except when it relates to items charged or credited directly to equity, in which case the deferred tax is also dealt with in equity.

Portsmouth Creates * Through our partnership with Portsmouth Creates, we engaged with local artists, businesses, and community groups to inform and shape our programming. Their extensive consultations provided valuable insights into the cultural needs of Portsmouth, enabling us to design projects such as "Rituals for Earthly Survival" and workshops for young creatives that reflect the city’s priorities and challenges. Film Hub Southwest * As a member of Film Hub Southwest, we benefited from regular consultations that included input from regional film exhibitors, educators, and community organizations. This collaboration helped us to align the Making Waves Film Festival and DVMISSION 48 Hour Film Challenge with broader strategic goals for audience development, accessibility, and talent growth in the South West. These partnerships ensured our programs were informed by a diverse range of voices, from grassroots community groups to industry professionals. The feedback gathered through these consultations played a critical role in shaping our activities, ensuring Kino Kult CIC continues to deliver meaningful impact within our community.
