The WINDRUSH CARIBBEAN FILM FESTIVAL CIC (WCFF) was established in February 2020 to celebrate the contributions to Britain made by the Windrush generation and their descendants through a combination of film, panel discussions, lectures and performances delivered by filmmakers, authors, historians and community organisers. In the financial year WCFF successfully delivered more than 30 films as well as panel discussions with fimmakers and community leaders in the month of June through in person screeningd in multiple locations around the country. The Festival featured classic and new films – documentaries, features and short films -- about the Caribbean diaspora’s experience under the Festsival’s 2024 theme of Transitions and Travels: The Journey Continues. We also awarded the Paulette Wilson Justice award to Dawn Hill CBE and the Menelik Shabazz Award to up and coming filmmakers to Nadine White for her film Barrel Children. Another important activity in 2024 was our presentation of an outdoor film screening in Windrush Square for the Big Caribbean Lunch on 23 June 2024 organised by Friends of Windrush Square for Windrush era residents and their families.
Our key stakeholders are a multi-generational audience, from school aged youth to pensioners, equally split between male/female and representing British Afro-Caribbean (40%), Black British (25%) and other white, Asian and mixed heritage (35%).We engage with at least 15% new audiences who are unfamiliar or know little about the Windrush generation and their issues and to engage at least 10% new audiences who are unfamiliar or know little about the contributions of Caribbean heritage people to British life. We amplified our outreach – content creation and audience development -- through a strong network of local community partners including Alt-Africa, Black Cultural Archives, Black History Walks, Elimu Mas Academy, Friends of Windrush Square, Recognize Black Heritage & Culture in Birmingham, Women of Colour Scotland, and Cinema Gola in Cardiff. The Festival is committed to audience development and engagement, utilising multiple channels to solicit feedback on current and future programming. This includes Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media metrics. We also conduct audience surveys and collect testimonials and other direct feedback to record demographic data, shifts in knowledge/awareness, and areas of further interest
The total paid to all directors was £16,124 but this included expenses too such as travel
No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
