This was a year of further growth and development. Now with a base and free office and event space in Brixton, London we are able to offer more regular community workshops and these were well-attended during this period, with participants reporting significant recovery and progress as a result. We had our first major London exhibition of the Messages from the HeART artwork, at International House, Brixton, with associated events. Several hundred people attended and feedback was excellent. We met many new associates, some of whom have become collaborators, and we recruited new workshop participants. We were invited to exhibit at external conferences and events including the Royal College of Psychiatrists and University of Central London later in the year. A community partnership with Battersea Arts Centre provided a second free venue for workshops and events. We were successful in acquiring funding from the National Lottery Awards for All fund and Wandworth Council’s City of Sanctuary fund and designed and began to run regular workshops to bring together refugees/asylum seekers and other local people at BAC. A new collaboration with South London Listens/Citizens UK led to HITH becoming a BeWell hub with opportunities for staff and volunteers to attend valuable training and networking events and take part in significant community events. Another collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire’s Madzines Research Project led to new connections, networking and workshop/speaking events in new areas. with Tam travelling to Glasgow and the North of England (on one occasion accompanied by a workshop participant/artist) as well as continuing to work regularly in Plymouth. We continued to encourage workshop participants to become volunteers and, where possible, paid sessional workers. We continued to collaborate with the University of Central London on evaluation of our work.
Once again it has remained a vital part of HITH’s ethos and service to communicate and consult with stakeholders throughout this time. Stakeholders have been involved with all elements of the workshops/exhibitions and other events and we have been working with the University of East London Psychology Dept. on optimising the gathering of feedback and responses. Consultations and evaluations have taken place via postcards, online and paper forms, social media, photographs, video interviews and through artwork and performance. In addition to general ongoing consultation about projects, content etc, we have consulted with and involved our stakeholders in the evaluation process with UEL students. Feedback has been good and, while we have tweaked services according to the requirements of our stakeholders, they have generally been happy with the way things are. Stakeholders include sessional staff and volunteers, service-users and collaborating organisations and individuals, and local community networks.
