Principal activities |
Newham Monitoring Project (formerly NMP Anti-Racist Trust) is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. The objects are to undertake research into the causes and impact of racial discrimination both historically and presently; the manner in which communities both historically and presently have attempted to overcome such discrimination; to use a range publications and other media, conferences, seminars, training to disseminate to the public and other interested parties its findings and conclusions. None of the directors has any beneficial interest in the company. All of the directors are members of the company and guarantee to contribute £1 in the event of a winding up. As set out in the Articles of Association, the directors of the Project are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit' |

The accounts have been prepared and delivered in accordance with the special provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime. The profit and loss account has not been delivered to the Registrar of Companies. |

Accounting policies |

Basis of preparation |
|
The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with FRS 102, The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (as applied to small entities by section 1A of the standard). |

Turnover |
|
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. |

Taxation |
|
No corporation tax was payable on the company's investment income under Section 505 of ICTA 1988. |

Provisions |
|
Provisions (ie liabilities of uncertain timing or amount) are recognised when there is an obligation at the reporting date as a result of a past event, it is probable that economic benefit will be transferred to settle the obligation and the amount of the obligation can be estimated reliably. |

Pensions |
|
Contributions to defined contribution plans are expensed in the period to which they relate. |
|
|
Grants |
|
Revenue grants are recorded in the accounts in the period to which they relate. |
|
|
Volunteers |
|
The project relies on the services and talents of many volunteers. No financial value has been attributed to these in the financial statements. |
