Year Ending: 29 February 2024

Company activities and impact

Families & Community Support Service (FCSS) continues to go through challenges. Uncertainty is one of the top challenges facing the charitable organization presently. Given the impact of Brexit, the Ukrainian war on the UK economy, coupled with the existing aftermath of the impact of COVID-19 and the high cost of living crisis has made it more critical than ever for the charitable organization to stay ahead of the curve. Some of these challenges include economic pressures on individual giving, lack of funding, changing donor behaviour, mobilization of volunteers, ability to make our voice heard, inflationary pressures across the country, and reduced ability to meet high demand for the services, etc. Notwithstanding these presenting challenges, the organisation continues to reach out the most vulnerable adults and families in the community. FCSS continues to provide first response service for vulnerable adults/ individuals and families wanting to access social care within the provision of the Care Act 2014 in the community including advocacy, advice, information, guidance, and practical support. The organisation provides independent and high-quality information, advice, and advocacy on matters relating to health, social welfare, and social care to strengthen integration between health, social care, and community-based services, ensuring residents are provided with the right help as quickly as possible. It contributes to the delivery of an effective, efficient, and safe helpline for the residents, information, advice on wider support, and services available in the community enabling vulnerable adults and families to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. As one of the first response services in London Borough of Newham, we carry out an initial assessment and develop close joint working with health-related agencies, for example, Social Prescribers, GPs and intermediate care, the third sector, local housing providers, and other agencies, on behalf of vulnerable individuals and families in the community. We support individuals and families who, because of disability, illness, social exclusion, and other challenges, find it difficult to express their views, wishes and feelings or get the support they need. Our objective is to empower people to have their voices heard and make a real difference in their lives. We accomplish this by speaking for them when they cannot and supporting them to speak for themselves when they can do so. We aim to increase the confidence of individuals and families by empowering and supporting them to achieve and sustain equality and empowerment. All our advocacy, information, and advice services we provide are free, independent, and confidential. FCSS promote Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion through Advocacy and empowerment for individuals and families suffering or likely to be at risk of suffering discrimination in our community, especially on the grounds of race, age, disability, gender, or sexual orientation etc.

Consultation with stakeholders

Sustainability of the Project The organization recruits from within the communities we serve who have lived experience of the issues and barriers faced by those we support. This makes them ideally placed to support the delivery of the project as they understand first-hand the experience of our beneficiaries.
