Davren has been supporting the Romani community in Halifax by supporting with filling out application forms to GPs, dentists, admission forms to Primary/Secondary schools, assisting the community with applying for benefits and making sure that they were claiming the right benefits and any other relevant application forms. By doing so, Davren has built strong connections in the community but also healthy relationships with the Roma families. Furthermore, this support has helped the Roma community to be less vulnerable and for some families to to get out from poverty. Throughout last year, Davren has also provided foodbanks to help not just the Roma community but also any other community that was in need. We have distributed 130 foodbanks and it helped the community to break free from poverty by also providing additional support to help the community resolve the crises they’re facing so that they don’t need to use a food bank again in the future. This included things like debt advice, mental health support, or benefits guidance. Moreover, we have provided winter clothes to Roma families who were in need. This has helped to keep them warm during winter: Warm clothing provides essential protection from the elements, preventing hypothermia and other cold-related illnesses.
