LitterARTI CIC have organised 11 community flea markets over the year, which saw a regular attendance of about 80 traders - a mix of small businesses owners and residents who sell a mixture of stuff from art to pre-loved clothing, records and food and more. The market has a footfall of about 400 - 600 people. We were able to supplement the profit from the Market with funding from Quartet Community Funding and Playing Out to support play activities for children in the neighbourhood of Eastville. We hosted a number of play streets with a local resident and in the local park over the half terms, offering creative activities, active play and lunch for the families attending. We also organised a Half Term Hang Out at the Old Library, which saw over 80 children attend a free day of crafts, STEAM activities, Forest School and free lunch. We also made a contribution towards the STEAM club which ran at the Old Library for the year, by paying the organiser a small fee to support her to put it on. Otherwise we were commissioned for a scrap music workshop by Team Love's Forwards festival and to do a participatory scrap sculpture at to raise awareness of rubbish in the ocean for a festival in Cornwall on the beach.
Our stakeholders are the residents in the community of Eastville, where the M32 Flea Market takes place, also including the children who live here in the neighbourhood and surrounding, also the traders and visitors to the Market. Other stakeholders include the Council, and National Highways with whom we have the lease to utilise the space for organising the market. We have regular conversations and feedback from the traders from the market, and also with the residents about the impact of the market on their area. We are in regular conversations also with the statutory organisations about maintenance of the space. During the market we ask for feedback and with the residents supporting the play street we constantly see how we can improve or adapt what we do to make it fit with their lifestyles.
