In the financial year to which this report relates, SDA has continued to deliver meaningful artistic work while making substantial progress in fulfilling our goals of inclusivity, accessibility, and community engagement. Our activities have once again brought significant benefits to a wide range of communities across the country, including: Employment and Development in the Arts Sector SDA remains committed to supporting the livelihoods of creative professionals. Over the past year, we have continued to employ numerous freelance performers and artists in the arts sector, creating opportunities for growth and professional development. By maintaining our focus on collaborative and inclusive casting processes, we have ensured that talented individuals from diverse backgrounds can thrive within our productions. Engaging Performances, Events, and a New Touring Show This year, SDA successfully delivered over 80 days of performances, walkabouts, and events across rural and urban locations nationwide. A highlight of our work was the creation and nationwide tour of a brand-new interactive walkabout show, "Squirrel Walnutkins Saves the Planet." This production follows Squirrel Walnutkins and Felix the Fox as they embark on an exciting and heartfelt journey to save the last tree in Evergreen Wood. Designed specifically for SEN (Special Educational Needs) audiences and primary years, the show uses comedy, interactive elements, and games to captivate children and adults alike. Touring throughout the summer, the production celebrated themes of environmental stewardship, teamwork, and resilience, resonating deeply with diverse audiences. Inclusivity and Accessibility Initiatives Inclusivity continues to be a cornerstone of SDA’s mission. This year, we expanded our efforts by actively employing neurodivergent cast members, further diversifying our creative teams and performances. We also toured to Aspire Day Centres, engaging with audiences with learning disabilities and championing the importance of accessible theatre for all. These efforts have solidified SDA’s reputation as a company that prioritises inclusivity and equality in all its projects. In summary, SDA’s work this year has once again demonstrated our commitment to supporting creative practitioners, providing engaging and inclusive experiences for diverse audiences, and bringing live theatre to communities nationwide. Our ongoing dedication to these objectives ensures that SDA continues to make a lasting and positive impact through the power of storytelling and the arts.
