COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

INCLUSIVE JOURNALISM CYMRU CIC

Company Number: 14019320 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2024

Company activities and impact

Inclusive Journalism Cymru is a network to connect, support and campaign for journalists and aspiring journalists historically marginalised or excluded by the industry in Wales. We do that by supporting our community with opportunities, connections and support. During the financial year 2023-24 those activities included: The publication of “Cymru & I” a book of non-fiction essays on Wales and Welshness, written by members. The delivery of an Inclusive Media Development Lab – a weekend of training and connection, teaching entrepreneurship and sustainability skills The paid opportunity to contribute to our increasingly vibrant Member’s Blog A writing partnership with QueerAF, an independent platform that supports emerging LGBTQIA+ creatives A series of masterclasses, including events on podcasting and newsletters Contributions to policy – thorugh engagement with the Welsh Government’s Public Interest Journalism Working Group and a partnership with the Centre for the Creative Economy to map the journalism sector in Wales.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s core stakeholders are journalists, aspiring journalists and members of the wider media sector in Wales who support our aims. We held a well-attended in-person and virtual AGM in September 2023, as well as giving members the option to contribute to policy-making through a questionnaire. These consultations helped frame our strategy for the following year. We also regularly canvas opinion from our community through our newsletter – which comes out every 6-8 weeks.

Directors' remuneration

As detailed in the accounts, the Director’s received a stipend of £12,400 (D Kerlin – £2,400 for one day a month, and S Kulkarni - £10,000 for one day a week) to reflect work carried out on Inclusive Journalism Cymru’s activities as outlined above. Director, S Rose, is paid for project management on an hourly basis. After being appointed as a Director on 31 January 2024, they received £1,852.63 for this work. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
