The company is a film festival for filmmakers who identify as disabled and neurodivergent which held an annual screening and awards event in March 2024. Seventy-four films were submitted to the festival’s competitions from around the world. The eight films deemed strongest by the festival’s team were shown and three awards were given to the category winners. Seventy people attended the screening event and entry was free. The audience was split between local members of the public, students and staff from the University of Winchester, and filmmakers from the UK. This represented a mixture of those who identified as disabled, neurodivergent, and those who identify as able-bodied and neurotypical. Several students also helped out at the festival, giving them valuable work experience. The screening allowed filmmakers from the disabled/neurodivergent committees who are often unable enter the the film industry through tradition routes to have their films shown to a diverse audience. It also created a space for disabled/neurodivergent audiences to see their experiences reflected in films by people who made those films.
The company’s stakeholders are members of the audience, the festival team and the filmmakers who submitted their work to the festival. The thirty-seven audience members present at the end of the event all filled out a feedback questionnaire before leaving. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive with the diverse selection of films, the new perspectives they offered, the question and answer sessions held with several of the filmmakers, and the suitability of the venue receiving particular praise. All filmmakers who submitted films had the option to leave feedback and the four that choose to do this were all very positive, praising the festival’s passion, its celebration of minority voices, and its community building abilities.
