The company runs dance classes and pamper sessions for women and children for the well-being go of their mental health and wellbeing. The first dance afro and pamper day was held on January 2024 at a dance studio in Lichfield and was attended by parents and children alike. The session helped connect the attendees to African culture and heritage. The pamper room allowed space to relax for the benefit of their wellbeing and mental health. The event was of benefit for local residents of African descent who wanted their children to stay connected to their culture and heritage. Involved in menopause event where 70 women received information and coping methods on how to manage menopause through yoga, meditation and music. Delivered a dance session at a Mother’s day event attended by women, children and families from the BAME community. Discussions were around birth traumas, the use of doulas and the psychological effects of motherhood and how to get help via the NHS and local community. Participated in Black Maternal Health week, attending an all Parliamentary Party Group (APPG) hosted by MP Bell Ribeiro - Addy MP meeting on maternal mental health. The progress in the quality of treatment BAME women receive while pregnant and after child birth has improved. A report into the finding showed that BAME women were now 4 times more likely to die during pregnancy childbirth and after as opposed to 5 times more 5 years ago. Other charities and no for profits presented on how they have helped BAME women and how we could all collaborate to make further strides. In the future. Delivered a mindful dance workshop attended by 40 women teaching them how to use everyday music to release stress and tension within the body. Delivered two African dance workshops covering the history of African genres, the musicians who created the music and the effects on social change. This was for an African heritage festival along Birmingham canal side the event was attended by100 people including families from the BAME community. This was in collaboration with other not for-profit organisations including those for Mothers and babies. Delivered a dance workshop to a group of 30 youth of African decent covering the history of an African genre popular in southern Africa and the effects of social change including the empowerment of female DJs. This was in collaboration with an African youth charity that works to enrich the lives of youth of African descent. Later attended a Black History event held by the same charity celebrating African music and culture. Delivered an African dance workshop attended by 10 Men, women and children. Workshop covers Pan African musicians the dances created for the music and the interweaving of African cultures across the Atlantic.
We asked for feedback from attendees: After the African dance and pamper day, we received 3 reviews with one mother feeling like more cultural events were needed close to her local area so her child could stay connected. One child loved the the quiet space and pamper room and felt at ease and relaxed. Another parent was surprised that their child engaged in the dance session as they were usually more reserved at home. received video reviews after the mindfulness dance session with 4 videos speaking on how they enjoyed the event that it was different to what they had experience before, how they felt less stressed after and how they wanted to attend more of the same in the future. We asked for feedback form the organisations we partnered up with including: African Youth Arise who love our work and collaborated with us a number of times the year. InSociety LTD felt our session was brilliant and wanted to work with us further in the new year. Some attendees have offered to volunteer for some of our future events and we are in talks with them as we plan the year forward.
