Year Ending: 30 April 2024

Company activities and impact

In the year 2023 to 2024, we recruited, consulted with and trained 8 autistic participants to a funded programme called ‘The Experts On Our Autism’. Together we researched and designed a training programme for organisations about the lived experience of autistic people. In so doing, we created a suite of high quality training resources, some of which are now on sale to support professionals working with autistic clients, as well as HR staff who want to provide for their ASD employees. Together with our lived experience experts, we delivered training in autism awareness to our funders, as well as other local community organisations. We expanded on this training, and delivered it with our lived experience experts to local businesses, a National Trust property, and we secured a contract with Cambridge City Council to research the needs of neurodivergent residents of the city. We joined a network of organisations preparing to deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training to NHS England, and more specifically NHS and social care staff in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We began to recruit Learning Disabled and Autistic experts by experience to be trained in this delivery. We attended events including a Disability Fair in St Neots, where we consulted with members of the public as to their needs and frustrations, and passed this information on to the organisations that are in place to make positive changes

Consultation with stakeholders

TEOM’s stakeholders now include participants in our programmes; residents of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and surrounding counties; the staff and board of trustees of local community organisations and charities; local specialist network members (for example Cambridge Mental Health Network); local businesses and local branches of national organisations; NHS England staff and social care staff. In 2023 to 2024 we consulted with our lived experience experts on how they were affected by autism and other neurodivergent conditions, and used the resulting findings to co-produce training resources and training events, which we then co-delivered. Each session of training we delivered was anonymously evaluated, and the findings were used to improve and expand upon our knowledge and trainings. We consulted with our lived experience experts on all aspects of TEOM’s policies and procedures, as well as the policies and resources of other organisations. We consulted with the general public at events like Pride, Mill Road Winter Fair, Disability Fair in St Neots, and as part of a research project for Cambridge City Counc
