Company activities and impact

We are so excited to be developing the UK first culturally relevant Jewellery Academy in the JO Birmingham UK. bringing accessible training and fresh opportunities to local young people whilst brikging diversity, inclusion, fresh lifehlood and energy to the British Jewellery tradc, prusenting hope for a brighter, more colourful futurc for all involved. I have trained over 30 young peo at my JO workshops over the past 19 years and I look forward to opening doors into the Jewellery trade for many more especially those who are local, marginalised. from low income families where the high cost of training and other historic and systemic obsta create seemingly insurmountable barriers to entry. The recent murder in 2020 of George Floyd in the LSA and the BLACK LIVE MATTER movement have highlighted the practice of institutionalised and systemic racism in the UK which has been well documented throughout many organisations including govemment. the police force, the church and education... MasterPeace Academy addresses this endemic social injustice with a fresh apprach to training to create equal oppostunity with a permanent culturally relevant, diverse and inclusive jewellery academy where everyone can thrive. In light of the black lives matter moverner and the covid 19 pandemic as well as our own local rescarch into systemic barriers to entry in the U.K jewellery trade, a need was identified for a support group for local black jewellers. The black 10 guild conveyed with a mission to celebrate, promote and pas on the legacy of African Caribbean culture in the British Jew ellery trade. In the interest of pessing on that legacy the vision for MasterPeaceA cademy was bom. A hody of around 15 local master jewellers, the BIQ Guild acts as the stecring group and core knowledge bank of tutors for the project and weekly planning ineetings commenced in June 2020
