Positive Steps Outdoors' (PSO) mission is to 'Facilitate self care by enabling people to escape to outdoor destinations, engaging in ‘green therapy’ collectively to benefit their mental and physical wellbeing". During this reporting period we have: Green Therapy Programmes and Healthy Hikes Collaborated with local community groups, charities, and businesses to design and deliver tailored green therapy programmes at iconic destinations. Benefitted participants by promoting positive mental health, introducing them to new locations, and providing knowledge for independent exploration. Raised funds for other charities while hosting healthy hike events for charities, businesses, and emergency services, fostering well-being in individuals and communities. Advocacy and Awareness for Outdoor Well-being Delivered talks at seminars, conferences, and podcasts, highlighting the link between mental health and outdoor activities. Encouraged well-being leads to include green therapy in workplace initiatives, aligning with the Public Health Agency’s ‘Take 5 Steps to Well-being’ framework. Youth Mental Health Partnership Partnered with Young Social Innovators (YSI) to develop a mental health programme for young people as part of the Ignite Community Programme, supported by PEACEPLUS and managed by SEUPB. Raised close to £26k to support the programme through find raising efforts. Social Media and Awareness Campaigns Recruited volunteer marketing lead to expand social media presence. Launched an awareness campaign promoting outdoor activities as a tool for improving mental health.
Positive Steps Outdoors (PSO) engages closely with stakeholders to ensure our services effectively address the needs of beneficiaries and align with organisational well-being goals. Key stakeholder groups include: Well-being Leads: From local community groups, charities, and employers. Clients and Employees: Individuals benefiting directly from our programmes through participation. Mental Health Charities and Supporters: Organisations offering insights and expertise. Engagement Activities: Understanding Needs:PSO collaborates with well-being leads and mental health supporters to identify the barriers faced by beneficiaries and tailor our services accordingly. Workshops and Seminars: Participated in workshops and seminars organised by business groups to share insights on green therapy and mental health. Feedback gained during these sessions has been invaluable in refining our approach and aligning with organisational well-being priorities. Direct Stakeholder Engagement: Leveraged memberships with Social Enterprises NI and NICVA to engage directly with well-being leads, understanding how our services can complement their programmes and organisational culture. Participant Feedback: Conducted evaluation surveys with programme attendees, capturing detailed feedback to drive continuous improvement in our service delivery. Outcomes and Service Enhancements Through these collaborative efforts, PSO has implemented several key improvements: Location Selection: Identifying accessible and appealing venues that encourage maximum participation. Event Design: Adapting events to better suit participants’ experience levels and capabilities, making them more engaging and inclusive. Mindfulness Integration: Including light-touch mindfulness sessions delivered by qualified counsellors to enhance participants' overall experience. Equipment Support: Partnered with a major outdoor equipment retailer to provide gear, ensuring broader access and participation in events.
