In the year to 31/03/2024 Ministry of Pubs has not directly benefited any community due the the CIC still being researched as directors apply for grants to support development of the social purpose of the business: The Ministry of Pubs has been deeply involved in examining decades of academic research to grasp the vital role and significance of pubs in British society. We've reached out to a diverse range of stakeholders, including social historians, academics, intellectuals, communities, brewers, small pub companies, successful publicans, and civil society institutions, all with a shared interest in the value that well run pubs bring to social stability and community cohesion. These discussions have allowed us to delve into the roots of British pub culture, uncovering why pubs have thrived uniquely in our nation and garnered such widespread appeal. Furthermore, we've collaborated with universities worldwide to investigate the social capital value of pubs to their communities. Despite clear demand for their existence, pubs often struggle as businesses. Our goal has been to champion the creation of a new kind of pub company specifically tailored to address this challenge. This company would focus on investing in, saving, improving, and preserving pubs as community assets that deliver public good. Our approach involves engaging all stakeholders; staff, community members, investors, suppliers, and customers in ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of these community businesses. Our ultimate objective is to use this understanding to design a solution for the issue of pub market failure. In many areas, private equity interests prioritise high financial returns over the preservation of pubs, leading to market failure even when there's clear local demand for quality pubs. We aim to address this discrepancy by creating a framework that ensures pubs are valued and sustained as vital community assets, irrespective of short-term financial incentives.
