It is our mission to restore a very rare (only 6 in the world) Airspeed Oxford training aircraft (Project for static exhibition use only) is of a type that was flown by WW2 RAF and common-wealth Aircrew during training missions and by the famous female aviator Amy Johnson. Amy Johnson who flew from our location at Blackpool Airport on the fateful day she lost her life piloting an airspeed oxford in a flying accident over Herne Bay. The mission is to develop a permanent memorial to the commonwealth aircrews who lost their lives during ww2 whilst also developing a new visitors attraction to the Fylde coast remembering the legacy that the female aviation pioneer Amy Johnson ( who has strong links with the local area) for future generations of women to follow. The aircraft project will be completed by volunteers from the local community who will learn new skills with assistance from local small businesses and agencies. Along with the local community a number of ex-service voluntary agencies and charities will be utilised. The aircrafts structure is made of wood and needs replacing and can be produced by people with limited woodworking experience as the aircraft was designed for ease of construction. All of the aircrafts components are in good order and very few components are missing. We have a full drawing suite of the aircrafts structure which is currently under evaluation by a local joinery company. The completed aircraft project will be displayed at Blackpool Airport in Hangar 42 which is the home of the Lytham St Anne’s Spitfire Ground Display team and we have storage /workshops available to carry this project out. We believe that this project will take a minimum of 5 years to complete and will help breathe new life into Blackpool Airport and its local community.
Saving Amy CIC currently has only one Director and Person with Significant Control (PSC) namely Mr Colin James Brown. Whilst we are accommodated within Hangar 42 we have no financial ties to this facility and our accommodation is provided free of charge on a charitable basis to assist us with our cause.
No remuneration was received
