In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. In Psychotherapy Manchester CIC is a small group of Art therapists. Our primary focus is to offer creative therapy interventions to children, young people and adults with psychological, physical and neurodevelopmental difficulties to improve their health for a healthier and happier future. We offer therapies to individuals and groups projects across communities in the Great Manchester area whose problems affect good quality of life, and their relationships, who suffer from isolation and exclusion for various reasons such as cultural background, the impact of childhood traumas such as physical, emotional, sexual abuse and neglect, domestic violence. In 2023/24 Psychotherapy Manchester CIC provided psychological, therapeutic, and creative activities for all people who suffer with mental health difficulties within Grater Manchester area. This year we run 4 projects where we offered therapeutic support to our service users to improve their mental health to have more healthier, happier and meaningful life. During the financial year 2023/24, the Psychotherapy Manchester CIC secured funding via: Forever MANCHESTER- An award which supported up to 15 parents/guardians of children who went through significant trauma. Sexual assault is one of the most damaging traumas, destroying personal boundaries, trust and relationships. We aimed to support parents so they could support their children and young people long-term. This ward gave as opportunity to offer psych-education about trauma and its symptoms and help to build parents' resilience so they could support their children through police investigation, in education and in their communities. It provided a safe space for their pain, life changes and the future. Sexual assault is perceived differently in diverse cultures and religions, and this award would support removing stigma, shame and persecution. We run a weekly art therapy group for up to 15 people. The group lasted for 1 hour and we had positive feedback. Standing Together – GMCVO Bury- we offered 1:1 art therapy sessions to children and young people ( 2-18 years) who experience sexual violence/assault + domestic violence in the Bury area. We provided up to 20 weekly sessions to each child where they could use different art materials to externalize and explore their painful experiences within a safe space. We aimed to offer art therapy to 15 children. However, more people reached and got involved, such as parents/guardians, social workers, early help workers and etc. Big Lottery Funding for all- Art therapy group for children who are at risk of offending where we facilitated an art therapy group for children and young people at risk of offending due to childhood traumatic experiences such as neglect; physical; emotional and sexual abuse; domestic abuse; war-related traumas; loss of their parent; etc. We estimate the group could start on January 24 and end on November 24. The group was set up for 15 individuals ages 11-16y. It run weekly for 3 hours where we provided different art materials for the participants to externalize their painful life experiences; this was explored within a safe and confidential space to make small transformation and improve their mental health to prevent them from offending. They will be able to learn about themselves; thrive; and build safe and healthy relationships within and outside the group. They developed emotional intelligence and vocabulary so they could express their painful thoughts and feel safely and will help to prevent antisocial behaviours. They developed new skills which could be transferred and used within Manchester Communities. We advertised the project on social media platforms and display boards in community centres; PRUs; schools; churches; social services; and residential care homes. We linked with our vast professional network via emails and word of mouth; but mostly let our corporators know about the project to receive referrals. Bury Council - Bury Veterans and Cadets Community Support Fund application-We set up and run a weekly art therapy group for Veterans and Cadets to address their mental health, which was interfering with their abilities and capacities to engage fully in their daily life. The art therapy group offered opportunities to come together, share their experiences and struggles using verbal and nonverbal communication, build new relationships, and address their mental health problems, such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and isolation. They were able to address their lived experiences in a safe and contained environment. Coming together and visualizing their distressing or joyful experiences improved their mental health, which will have a domino effect on improving other parts of their lives.
The company stakeholders are residents and the directors of the Psychotherapy Manchester CIC company who have lived in the local areas for a long period of time and developed the business model for the company based on their experience and consultations with the local community groups, voluntary and statutory organisations and local residents. We ask everyone using our services to fill a short questionnaire and straightforward evaluation forms about their experience of our services. We also collect verbal and written feedback for the service-users and other professionals who we work in collaboration with. This will help us to gain insight into the needs and wishes of local residents and to identify what we could do to meet these needs and wishes effectively for the next year. During this year period, we have identified that there is need for the group for BME groups, Individuals who are victim of sexual violence, Anxiety, Children/YP with traumatic experiences, Children/YP with Learning disabilities and managed to establish appropriate time and space for the individual to access the group easily. We encourage our volunteers and a student to record new ideas for the business when talking to our service users, suggest new ideas themselves and collect their verbal and written feedback on regular basis. We are in the process of applying for funding to offer further services for BME women who suffer in isolation and other mental health problems. Due to COVID-19 we were able to promptly adapt, and we were successful in obtaining some funding. The directors of the company have lived within Bury and Trafford community for long term and developed business model for the company based on their experience of talking to other residents. We identified that there is a gap in companies offering psychological therapeutic support in Bury area. We keep a “suggestions box” for our clients to provide details of services which they would like to receive.
