COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

MOSSES COMMUNITY PRE SCHOOL C.I.C.

Company Number: 11950157 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2024

Company activities and impact

In this financial year, our preschool has made significant contributions to the community by engaging in community outreach for parents in areas we felt our parents/carers needed more advice on, such as how to access childcare funding, and a session with the Bury Educational Psychology team to inform parents of the help available to them and within the local community and to gain their feedback on how they felt these services were best delivered. The Preschool Manager attended a meeting with the Bury Living Well team to advise on what support and services our parents may need to improve the health and well-being of the children and families attending our setting these topics included weaning, healthy eating, tackling childhood obesity, and information on delays in children's development the preschool will work with this team to host sessions at the centre and promote these to all parents in the following months. The manager and deputy had a request for support to improve practice in the EYFS, which was accepted by the Bury Early Year team. They have been receiving visits from the SEN team, Early Years Advisor and the SLCN/EAL Lead with support on how to improve their practices, how to further support a large number of children with EAL and apply for funding for the children with SEND who attend the setting. This has had a very positive impact on both staff and children and has been well received with regular feedback from all professionals involved. The setting used DAF funding to purchase equipment to benefit all children but especially those with SEND and EAL to help better meet their needs this included both indoor & outdoor trampolines, peanut balls, sensory resources and dual language books. During the summer term, the deputy manager and a senior member of our team took part in the Early Years Recovery Programme. These practitioners learned about the impact COVID-19 has had on children who currently attend the setting following this training, this has helped staff better support and understand our children's needs. As required by the EYFS, all practitioners completed updated Paediatric First Aid training in May. Practitioners identified their need for SEND training during supervision with the manager, provided by the Bury SEN Team during a PAD day in June to aid staff in better understanding and supporting our children with additional needs. The setting has again worked closely with the local primary school to ensure smooth transitions for our children moving on to other educational settings teachers often are invited to visit our setting during the summer term, as well, and our practitioners visit theirs to discuss children moving on to nursery/reception class. The Business and Finance Manager & Preschool Manager attended a Bury College Business Innovation Meeting and are currently looking at funding for an Outdoor Play Area Refurbishment, Technology upgrades and possible Premises Construction/Refurbishment if successful, this could provide the children with opportunities they may not have at home such as a sensory garden and opportunities to grow fruits and vegetables, an increase in the numbers of places we can offer for children in the local area and for practitioners to have access to upgrades in the equipment they use to observe and assess the children with. Our educational setting benefits the community by providing a welcoming, nurturing, inclusive environment. We focus on cognitive, social and emotional growth preparing children for future academic success.

Consultation with stakeholders

At the end of the summer term, the preschool sends out a parental questionnaire that allows our parents to give feedback and help us improve our services this includes questions on how happy parents are with the quality of care and support, the quality of the environment, quality of staffing, management and leadership and suggestions on how as a preschool we can make improvements and provide opportunities to enhance the preschool environment. After gathering this feedback, the results are communicated through our newsletters and meetings. Staff have regular supervision with the Preschool Manager this allows the manager to give them personalised feedback. Staff and management meetings are held termly that facilitate open discussion around all aspects of the preschool. We offer an open-door policy to all our parents, and they are welcome to meet with their child’s key person or management team to discuss specific topics and provide feedback, Our email address and telephone number are also available on every document we send out to the parents allowing them to contact us at a time to suit them if they are working etc. As a company, we feel this approach in working together with parents, team members and management provides the best outcomes for our children and gives stakeholders confidence in their voices being heard.
