The Black Costume Network (BCN) is a cohort creating an open and safer space for Black and Mixed race Costumiers in the Film and TV Industry in the UK. It has become a place for often underrepresented voices to be heard whilst focusing on positivity, progression, action and community support. Over the past year we have successfully connected The Black Costume Network members with other industry professionals, such as Directors, producers, designers and supervisors, resulting in many members gaining employment or contacts for future opportunities. We have organised multiple Online and IRL networking and training events for our ever growing community. Including a summer (August) and winter (December) event as well as training and support for industry entrants in between. We have ongoing email communication with industry professionals and have seen a rapid increase in members from our community being hired within the industry, not just at entry level but also in leadership roles. We have many members paying an equal contribution to help with the runnings of the CIC which we all; including Directors and secretaries, pay. This has allowed us to organise the aforementioned events, as we haven’t received external income from parties outside of the community that we serve. We have also invested in building our social media platform and presence which in turn has helped to amplify the community cohort. Ingoing: Monthly and annual membership contribution paid by members, via PayPal. Outgoing: Expenses for networking events such as The BCN annual summer networking picnic and annual Christmas networking event. Paying for running costs such as zoom and web domain etc.
Stakeholders/ Management are; Jodie-Simone Howe (Dir) Rianna Charles (Dir) Viveene Campbell (Sec) The management team has quarterly meetings to discuss future planning and projects and to assess the current state of affairs of The Black Costume Network. All members of management are consulted on a regular basis about any changes and can feedback any thoughts regarding improvement. These thoughts have been taken into consideration over that past year and have informed the aforesaid projects.
