Wirral RJ and Mediation service was successful in obtaining a new contract which commenced on 21/12/2023 for a period of 12 months reviewable on an annual basis with a potential period of a further 3 years. The contract has been renewed from 1st January 2025 – 31st January 2025. The service continues to provide support to Merseyside Police, Wirral Council, Housing Providers, and community groups to provide restorative justice for victims of low level crime and anti-social behaviour across the borough of Wirral. The service provides the statutory services opportunities to both victims and offenders of crime restorative practices which in turn reduces demand on the public purse, courts and reduces demand on front line services. The service also offers mediation support to members of the community who may be involved in neighbour disputes or community problems which cannot be resolved amicably. Our trained Restorative Justice practioners and mediators will work with members of the community, i.e. victims of crime who do not wish to enter the judicial system, however still want answers from their perpetrators and also an apology. This process allows offenders to understand their behaviour and how it has affected victims/members of the community due to their criminal or anti social behaviours. The service has been successful in supporting victims of crime in obtaining monetary compensation to any losses they have suffered as a consequence of the perpetrators crime, i.e. victims of criminal damage, low level fraud, theft, harassment, assault and offences under the public order act.
