Directors' report period ended 31 March 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 March 2024

Principal activities of the company

Directors’ Report April 2023 to March 2024 This is a summary of the projects Feminist Exchange Network has been involved in during 2023-2024. One of our directors was involved in a project in collaboration with Glasgow Women’s Library (GWL) at the beginning of the 23-24 year. A result of this project was that they asked if they could temporarily house the FEN library for us as we had just lost our storage in Govanhill. GWL looked after our library and stored it free of charge from June 2023-January 2024. It was then moved to the Roma Cultural Centre at the end of January 2024. They have very kindly offered to store it there for us. June/July 2023 Filmmaker Emma Bowen to produce a short film documenting our Planet Abundance workshops. This was screened at Leith Late, Edinbugh on 1st June and Glasgow Zine Fest on 9th July. January 2024 We were awarded a Digital Culture Grant from Creative Industries Fund NL to enable us to continue our Planet Abundance Work this year. This allowed us to commission 6 artists to work with FEN on this ambitious project. In 2024 Planet Abundance artists; Padmini Ray Murray, Teresa Feldmann, Ailie Rutherford, Saoirse Amira Anis, Keng Keng and Na’ku’set Ansal’ewit Gould were commissioned to develop some of the ideas from their workshops through the creation of new artworks. We are now working towards realising Planet Abundance as both a physical and online space. The Planet Abundance project takes artist Teresa Feldmann’s draft for a feminist science fiction as a starting point to collectively imagine a post-patriarchal world after capitalism. Our collaboration is an inter-local work in progress. As we share our experiences and practices as musicians; visual and performance artists; environmental activists; and art-based researchers from diverse race, class and gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds and geographic locations, we aim to learn collective strategies for listening to each other’s stories and building wiser futures in a time of unprecedented environmental challenges. March 2024 On Saturday 9th March 2024 we held the first prototype Feminist Tabletop Football game at Rumpus Room, funded by Arts Development Fund. Feminist Tabletop Football is a participatory artwork in the form of a cooperative table-top football game, played on a hexagonal board between three teams. The game builds on the Situationist ideas of cooperative football, adapting the format to explore intersectional feminism through the medium of cooperative football. Through this first game we were able to identify adaptations and changes to take the project forward next year.

Company activities and impact

Feminist Exchange Network is a small CIC. We use social and activist art as a way to involve people in reimagining the local economy, discussing ideas of feminist economics in a way that is accessible to everyone. In the year April 23 - March 24 we have helped our local community to discuss ideas of alternative economics in accessible ways by: The Planet Abundance project takes artist Teresa Feldmann’s draft for a feminist science fiction as a starting point to collectively imagine a post-patriarchal world after capitalism. The game builds on the Situationist ideas of cooperative football, adapting the format to explore intersectional feminism through the medium of cooperative football. Through this first game we were able to identify adaptations and changes to take the project forward next year. Our mobile library project has enabled us to help our local community to access books for adults and children and explore how alternative economics work and understand how they can be applied in local situations. The mobile library was taken to several local events with people participating in workshops.
