Urban Unity Network C.I.C. - Community Impact Summary Over the past year, this is what we have achieved: Urban Unity Network C.I.C. was established to address the challenges residents of the Isle of Dogs face in accessing information about local groups, events, services, and opportunities. Inspired by personal experiences of navigating limited and fragmented information, the network was created to connect residents, businesses, community groups, schools, and underused spaces, fostering greater accessibility and engagement. The network has built a strong local presence, with a WhatsApp group of over 500 members linked to 50+ other groups, and a Facebook group reaching 58,000 residents in the Canary Wharf area. Urban Unity Network’s website (www.urbanunitynetwork.com) serves as a landing page for businesses and residents to join a directory that will soon expand to include mapping and service listings. Key community benefits and achievements include: Support for Local Businesses and Individuals: Residents have used the network to grow businesses, find employment opportunities, reduce loneliness, and access services like home swaps. Community Events: The network has organized two community festivals, offering platforms for local businesses and services while gathering feedback to address community needs. New Services Introduced: In response to identified gaps, Urban Unity Network launched initiatives such as community karate, tuition classes, music therapy, and a food bank. Partnerships for Wellbeing: Collaborations with organizations like Nuffield Health and Canary Wharf College have enabled monthly health checks, children’s fitness classes, and free community fitness sessions. Community Hub Development: The acquisition of a community center on the Isle of Dogs provides a dedicated space for activities like employment and training workshops, financial health awareness sessions, and sports events. Plans include advertising opportunities and partnerships with local businesses for sponsorship. Collaborations with Housing Associations: Partnerships with Poplar Harca, Riverside, and other housing associations have facilitated service promotion, resident engagement, and the creation of satellite hubs to expand the network’s reach. Urban Unity Network’s activities have directly addressed community needs by connecting residents, enhancing access to resources, and fostering a sense of belonging. The network continues to grow and evolve, aiming to create a sustainable and scalable model that extends beyond the Isle of Dogs, bringing meaningful connections to other communities.
