The company has benefited the 6 (formerly homeless) tour guides in the following ways: - Provided them with meaningful work opportunities to work as tour guides - Provided them opportunities for training, skills development and confidence-building - Enabled them to lead conversations around homelessness - We have also started work to train three new tour guides - We have launched our first tour curated by a survivor of human trafficking and modern slavery - of Canning Town. - We have launched a new tour of Westminster Over the course of the year, we’ve also participated in workshops and given university lectures. In the past year we have delivered over 419 experiences to over 1605 customers in London.
The company’s stakeholders are people who have experience of homelessness in London. The company provides them training and opportunities to share their stories, and those of the communities that they live in, as tour guides. The directors of the company have lived in London for a number years and further developed the business model for the social enterprise based on their experiences in the tourism, social impact and business sectors. The customers for the company include locals in London and visitors from the UK and beyond, including tourists, school and university students and local businesses. We encourage everyone who takes part in our walking tours to fill out pre- and post-experience surveys so that we can measure the impact we are having. This allows us to see if and how our tours are helping change perceptions around homelessness. The overwhelming response has been positive: “We did the London Bridge tour with David. It’s an area we know pretty well but we learned so many fascinating things. David’s facts and stories were excellent and he generously shared some of his own experiences. Thoroughly recommend this tour and looking forward to trying some of the others offered by UT. Son’s opinion: To add on to that David was a very nice man and I’m 100% sure the other members of the UT team are as well.” Written August 20, 2024 “I was unsure what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised. Nic was a very knowledgeable guide who brought Soho to life with a wealth of stories, many of them about people she knew personally. I thoroughly enjoyed the walk.” Written July 10, 2024 “London is so sprawling, and there are so many areas you realise you never visit or spend time in: thank you Halimot for sharing your own personal story along with so much history and information about this part of East London. You are an incredible woman and a lesson in resilience, bravery and love. London is lucky to have you here, sharing your story. It was especially poignant taking teenagers to widen their perspective on the world a different world right on their doorstep.” Written May 20, 2024 “It was a fascinating tour of a part of London I knew little to nothing about. What was different and totally inspiring was the tour guide we had in Halimot. She shared part of her own personal story of being trafficked and her experience of modern slavery and homelessness and her triumph against all the odds. I wanted to listen to her every single word. I learned so much.” Written March 4, 2024
