Vital Play runs an after school club providing play for children as well as childcare and respite for parents. The company took over an existing provision and started work with the children on 1st November 2021 providing continuity of childcare to the families of two local schools. During the year 2023 2024 the afterschool club has benefited our local community by: Delivering childcare for 58 local families and 106 children, many of whom are able to work because we are providing this childcare. The children are offered socialisation and play opportunities which they would otherwise be without. Offering homework support for all the junior children meaning that the children can spend time with their parents doing other things. This relieves the pressure homework places on families and helps ensure the children are able to achieve their best. Accepting children placed by a school to give the child some social or homework support. Continuing to provide a free session one day a week for a school placement giving that child much needed support both to improve their socialisation and homework skills. This family are unable to support the child with homework at home, so this is important for their progress attainment and inclusion within school. Providing a wide a range of activities and socialisation that would not be available at home to the same extent due to space, environment, and company of other children. The Club has a number of rooms, two playgrounds and a nature reserve, as well as a staff team to facilitate play and provide activities. There are always a wide range of opportunities available for the children to play in a fulfilling and enriching way with each other. Offering regular work to 20 people. Many of whom would not be able to work in another role due to existing commitments such as family or education. Welcoming two volunteers who have been able to develop their life and work skills. Providing a fully funded Playworker to Richmond Mencap for one full day during their summer holiday activities. Proving the staff team with free behaviour and play training.
Our stakeholders are the parents, children, the school and members of staff. Our provision is very child-centred and parents are invited to talk with us on collection meaning there is a very informal consultation on a daily basis. More formally, in March and April 2024 we surveyed our parents and children. The relationships we develop with the families and children who come to us as our main stakeholders are vital and 89% of those surveyed were very satisfied with this and remainder where satisfied or better. The 8 of children’s comments mentioned that they like the club because they can play with their friends. 6 children mentioned they liked doing the range of activities particular mentioning arts and crafts. 5 children mentioned they like playing outside. We believe that it is essential that the Club is able to keep delivering this opportunities to our children as for many families, modern life means that these children don’t have to much access to these kind of unstructured recreational activities, and some of our children have very scheduled lives outside of the Club. Changes we made as result of the feedback: We have started to email a weekly meal menu to parents who request it.
