We operate a myriad of supportive and practical measures for armed force veterans. 1. A veteran only foodbank with support from Asda, Tesco, Greggs, Pizza Hut, Aldi and Sainsbury’s. 2. Assistance with PIP applications and appeals. 3. Assistance with locating suitable accommodation for homeless veterans. 4. A variety of training courses (including health and safety, first aid and food hygiene). 5. Close work with probation service and DWP departments, with the aim of reintegrating veterans back into society. 6. A breakfast club has been established to allow veterans to socialise with others in similar scenarios and to stop social isolation. 7. Confidence building and help with securing employment. In the near future, Veterans Response CIC are aiming to help veterans learn new joinery skills, this will include the safe use of tools as well as building a variety of items for sale to raise funds and create a self-sustaining part of our organisation. We believe the local community have embraces the veterans and fully support us and our aims. We engage regularly with the community and feel this is essential for us to be able to continue with our projects for the foreseeable future.
Veterans response is ran by veterans for the benefit of veterans. We speak regularly (at least weekly) within the local military community as well as further afield utilising social media, often within veteran and military pages and forums. We focus on topics that are most often requested by veterans, such as social isolation, helping with PTSD (and other mental health issues), assistance with reintegration to ‘civvy’ street accommodation and employment worries.
