We strive to empower, engage, and connect these women through our initiatives, strengthening their support networks and enabling resilience. By reducing isolation through peer support and creating women-led initiatives, we help Latin American women in Bristol feel more integrated, supported, and proud of their heritage. Since we started, we have run workshops and meetings once a week to support each other and create art and crafts. We support women in running their businesses. We advocate for integrating into British culture. SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES IN 2023/2024: - Art and Craft once a week: free meetings to do crafts and chats in community centres. - Advocacy - Latin American Dance workshops. - Book Club. - Latin American Market. - Activism in International Women's Day with Bristol Women's Voice. Representation Matters! - We were part of festivals like "Be Kind in Bristol" at Bristol Beacon. Representation Matters!
Through several key initiatives, we involve the Latin women we seek to support in the design, development, and running of our services. Our WhatsApp group, with over 290 members, serves as a platform for sharing information, seeking advice, and building connections. This group allows us to gather feedback and ideas directly from the community. We hold regular meetings to promote integration and socialization, ensuring that Latin American women can voice their needs and preferences. We facilitate connections among Latin American women, creating a supportive network. We conduct an annual survey to understand the evolving needs and priorities of the community, and we send a monthly newsletter with relevant information for the Latin community. We maintain an open phone line and email address for communication, allowing community members to participate in decision-making processes. Our work with refugees and asylum seekers in Bristol is multifaceted and community-oriented. We reach people in several ways: many women connect with us directly through word of mouth, email, social media, or WhatsApp groups. Health centres like Montpelier Health Centre and the South Gloucestershire Centre also play a significant role in connecting us with Latin American families new to the city, who may be isolated, face language barriers, and feel alone. We collaborate with numerous organizations, including Borderlands, St Mungo’s, Refugee Women of Bristol (RWoB), Bridges for Communities, Citizens Advice Bristol, and others. These partnerships help us address a range of needs: Necessities, Medical Support and Mental Health, Emotional and Spiritual Support, Housing and preventive services, Discrimination and Racism, Education and skill-building and cultural and Community engagement.
