The company deliver tailored programs for young black and mixed-black heritage women aged 14+. The programs are carefully crafted to increase emotional intelligence through self-reflection, allowing participants to better understand themselves and the value of their identity in society. Taking part in activities to increase their awareness and understanding of intersectionality, inequality/inequity, oppression, and how this relates to their future achievement, the company better prepare students for more successful educational and career pathways during and after their school experience. By helping them navigate the systems professionally and within the wider world, Girls Like Us encourage and support them in becoming the best possible version of themselves. Girls Like Us has facilitated workshops for approximately 50+ young black and mixed race girls through in-person and online programmes since its incorporation. Many of these girls have gone onto work in established companies, further education or entrepreneurship and increased confidence. 10+ institutions and organisations have benefitted from Girls Like Us tailored education on how to increase awareness and understanding of intersectionality for young black and mixed race girls.
The company’s stakeholders are local council members, teachers and students, public speakers, and young people of black and mixed race heritage. We’ve received feedback from the company’s beneficiaries of delivered programmes and school staff who support us in facilitating and organizing them. Our programmes are carefully crafted with current issues of today in mind, every year considering the feedback we have received. We evaluate each student that takes part in out programmes and monitor their progress.
