Learning Abilities CIC have supported over 30 adults with learning disabilities, difficulties and or Autism in their search for employment. Everything from helping to create CV’s, applying for employment, support with preparing for interviews, help with benefits enquiries and other issues. We have supported nine of these adults into work within their first few weeks and four have required permanent support. We have begun three social groups, two in Sunderland and one within East Durham. These are well attended and focus on breaking down social isolation and improving mental wellbeing. We have run two enterprise projects creating microbusiness’ building up client confidence and improving employability skills such as teamwork, speaking and listening. Our staff base has grown to 4 directors, three volunteers and 6 part time staff.
Consultation with clients and families identified a need for more social activities to combat social isolation and loneliness.
