COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BENS YOUTH AND COMMUNITY GROUPS CIC

Company Number: 12039460 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 June 2024

Company activities and impact

We support children, young people and families who have wellbeing issues as well as those with communication and social difficulties. We run BENS (Bond, Enrich, Nurture, Support) peer support groups for children from 5 years to 18 years of age, who may have Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder, low-self esteem, confidence and mental health issues. Through a variety of activities and experiences, they can develop relationships with their peers as well as developing vital communication and interpersonal skills. They can gain support from their peers in a safe, non-judgemental environment. In addition to this, we offer one to one wellbeing coaching appointments to children and young people, taking referrals mainly from statutory services such as schools, social care, NHS etc. This is a solution focused service, using various evidence-based techniques and talking therapies to support resilience and self-help skills. We also support parents by liaising with school and other services as well as mediation sessions with their children to improve communication or help them to understand their child’s behaviour.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our service users, both parents and children, are involved in the way we run our sessions and children take an active part in the planning the sessions. We feel that by giving our young people and children control over how our group sessions are run it helps them builds confidence, communication skills, gives them a sense of responsibility and also helps them to negotiate with other people. We liaise and network with other agencies as part of our consultation process so that we are meeting community needs rather than duplicating services. We work in partnership with other agencies and charities to complement our services so we can meet the needs, promote independence and resilience and improve overall self-efficacy of the young people and their parents.
