COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

MEDWAY PLAY LAB CIC

Company Number: 14027933 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2024

Company activities and impact

We contributed to relieving social isolation and promoting community bonding by running a drop in improv lounge for every month of the year. Special guest evenings with Andy Storey and Lucy Trodd (Senton), introduced the group to both stand up comedy and advanced improvisation skills, furthering their own creative expression. Further social cohesion was inspired through arranging one group theatre trip to London's westend and one group trip to a stand up comedy night in a local pub in Rochester. We devised and created an interactive outdoor adventure play which combined theatre and foraging. This included a collaboration with Miles Irving, author of 'The Forager Handbook: A Guide to the Edible Plants of Britain'. The piece was developed in two forms (adult version and family friendly version) with financial support from Medway Voluntary Action Test Bed Fund. Performances at Luton Millennium Green were booked by the Holiday Activities Fund and at New Fort Park in Gravesend as part of Gravesham Fringe. Feedback from audiences was overwhelmingly favourable, increasing exposure for all to nature and drawing attention to outdoor environments and the ability for all to save money in the cost of living crisis by foraging for food in these hyper-local spaces.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Gravesham Fringe connection was initiated by one of our advisory board. Suggestions for experts for the masterclasses also canvassed from both the advisory board and regular attendees.

Directors' remuneration

Kate Mechedou received a total of £1539 from involvement in the devising, directing and delivery of 'Wild Walks' outdoor adventure and improv facilitation activities. Nic Fysh received a total of £900 from involvement in the delivery of 'Wild Walks'. (Nic had her second child this year, limiting her active involvement around that time).
