Museum Detox was incorporated as a CIC in February 2022. Museum Detox is a network for people of colour who work in museums, galleries, libraries and the heritage sector in the UK. Our main purpose is to empower and support our members. Between February 2023 and February 2024, Museum Detox CIC has continued to support and provide benefits to its members, while adjusting to being a CIC. Our activities have included: -Seven meetups in person, allowing our members to connect, share ideas and advice -Continued use of the Museum Detox Google group, again allowing our members to connect, support one another, share opportunities and collectively advocate on issues affecting our membership -We were engaged by the Association of Independent Museums as Consultants for the Anti-Racist Wales Re: Collections project, and partnered with Pontypridd Museum to develop their anti-racist expertise. -We have participated in the Museum Associations Anti-Racism Steering Group and Roundtable discussions enabling us to advocate on behalf of our members. -We’ve published two blogs on ur website to support our members.
We conducted an annual members survey in October 2023 with the view to do so every two years. The results show that our members continue to value Museum Detox CIC as a network. An online AGM was held with Members in November 2023, to review our first year as a CIC, and to discuss the recent survey results and future priorities.
