The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 May 2024

Principal activities of the company

Company Activities and Impact Sunderland Youth and Community Orchestra (SYCO) continue to maintain a safe and fun environment for all who wish to both find out what it is like to play in an orchestra and to provide a forum for all musical abilities whilst making friends, adhering to all relevant policies eg safeguarding, Health and Safety and Risk Assessments. We have maintained links with 1719 Holy Trinity Church project and other community groups across the musical art spectrum. The Orchestra is stable in its numbers, however some of our older members (those coming up to aged 18) look towards going to University. We therefore continue to look at ways to recruit younger members. The funding obtained from the Together for Children Grant initiative which enabled us to provide upper and lower string specialists to teach and play in the orchestra has been successful. This has allowed SYCO to broaden the repertoire of musical pieces across the orchestra and because of this we look to performing in more concerts in the coming year. Consultation with Stakeholders Feedback remains a priority to ensure that the views of our members are represented on styles, genres of music, etc. Informal conversations are held with all members of the orchestra to gain information and opinions on the format of rehearsals, concerts and programmes. Directors, sessional leaders and other adult volunteers meet regularly prior to/after rehearsals. Social interaction continues to be a key part of our regular rehearsals. The standard break during rehearsal provides an avenue for new friendships to be formed and a time for music creativity and ideas to be presented to the Musical Director. The Musical Director uses all feedback to inform and customise rehearsals. Directors Remuneration No remuneration was received. Transfer of Assets No transfer of assets other than for full consideration. This report was approved by the board of directors on 1st February 2025
