Company activities and impact

Found Outdoors runs a 54 acre woodland venue, hosting a variety of activities to fulfil our mission of connecting people and nature for the benefit of both. Much of our day to day work is involved in ongoing land management as part of our rewilding aims. This is undertaken via discussions with the two primary ecologists we work with. Improving the biodiversity of the land - and discussing these methods and improvements - is key to our engagement with all site visitors. Since acquiring the land in 2020 we have been gradually adding light-touch infrastructure to enable us to host people more effectively. In this our second year as a CIC we have completed an open sided barn which doubles as a woodworking space and a multipurpose venue for meetings and small events. In addition to our two existing fire circle spaces we created a third fire circle space with a parachute cover. We have continued to make space available to independent outdoor activity providers: Holy Trinity Primary Academy for their forest school space on a weekly basis; Youth Adventure Trust activity days for their young people and a staff away day; Aim on the Plain bushcraft parties plus day camps in the school holidays. In addition we programmed a number of events ourselves including: an away day for Bath Spa University MA Fine Art students and our second Be You Day Retreat with low-income youth places funded by Wiltshire Area Board. We are growing as an inspiring place for artists. This year James Thornton developed site specific installations, Mick Davey made mugs from our clay, and James Aldridge created a series of research drawings. Volunteers this year were: a secondary school student working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award and a hedgehog expert carrying out surveys in collaboration with Wiltshire Mammal Group; In October 2203 we were guest speakers for a Rewilding Britain webinar which has had 2.3k subsequent views. The following January we launched the Wiltshire Small Rewilders network with the aim of connecting like minded projects to support our learning and share knowledge. We continue to share our activities online through regular posts on Facebook and Instagram. Our followers and mailing list are increasing steadily.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are: independent activity providers, people who attend the events we programme and local members of the public. When we programme our own events we actively engage with participants to gauge the success of the event. When appropriate we send a survey to our attendees afterwards. We meet and collaborate regularly with our independent activity providers to help promote their activities and to make sure the site is safe and suitable for their needs. Contact with the local community is maintained through contact with the village school, parish council and our direct neighbours. We are contactable via our website and social media for information and queries.
