This year, the company’s focus was on two main events. The first was a Fairtrade producer visit and the second was Fairtrade Fortnight, which is organised by the Fairtrade Foundation. The Fairtrade producer visit is run in partnership with the Bristol Link with Nicaragua (BLINC) and aims to increase awareness of Fairtrade through education, particularly at local schools. As well as several visits to schools in the local area, the company also organised an event for the general public and supporters of the Bristol Fairtrade Network. This education event was co-hosted with the Global Goals Centre in Sparks, Bristol and took the form of a Fairtrade Tea Party and a presentation by the Nicaraguan producer. During Fairtrade Fortnight, the company supported a local fairtrade business owner to set up a pop-up stall within Sparks and provided publicity for the business owner, further promoting the benefits of fairtrade to the general public. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, plans to commission fairtrade-themed artwork by a local artist had to be postponed. It is planned to commission this artwork in 2024-25 instead.
The CIC’s main stakeholders are: Local businesses, Bristol Climate and Nature Partnership, Global Goals Centre, Future Economy Network, Business West, Bristol City Council (including Bristol Link with Nicaragua), Bristol University and the general public. Contact with these organisations is largely via email or remote meetings (eg Zoom) in order to co-ordinate events. Contact with the general public is generally via social media or at face-to-face events such as the Fairtrade producer event at Sparks.
