Sustainability Managers for Schools (‘SMS”) has recruited, trained and managed a team of Sustainability Managers to help qualifying state-funded schools make tangible progress towards net zero. Pupils, staff and families have benefitted from improved green literacy and sustainability practices. SMS has offered family-friendly career opportunities for community members that have been excluded from traditional employment due to unconventional CVs or carer responsibilities. SMS has provided this much needed additional resource at no charge to qualifying state-funded schools. By properly resourcing and embedding new learning and practices into school communities, sustainable projects and activities have begun to lead to greener communities with better energy management, reduced waste, improved diet and greater biodiversity. With new greener skill sets, pupils and adults will be able to access greener and more future-proof employment opportunities.
Sustainability Managers for Schools (‘SMS”) works alongside its schools when developing bespoke school climate action plans. Key stakeholder input is actively sought through surveys and meetings throughout the academic year.
