People For People CIC was established as a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting communities in Birmingham. Our focus areas include providing advice and information, facilitating wellbeing activities, and organising community events, all while fostering social cohesion, strengthening integration between diverse communities, and promoting equal access to public services. In our first financial year, we prioritised laying strong foundations. This year, we successfully delivered the following initiatives: Housing and Welfare Advice Services: In October 2023, we secured our first grant from Shelter and the Oak Foundation to pilot a housing and welfare advice service in Erdington. Following the success of the pilot, we received an additional 12-month grant from the same funders to further develop and expand the service. In June 2024, we obtained further funding to introduce Romanian-language support, addressing the needs of Erdington’s growing Romanian community. Employment and Skills Support: We were contracted to provide English and employability sessions for homeless clients at SIFA Fireside. In January 2024, our application to the Shared Prosperity Fund was approved, enabling our staff to gain formal qualifications in housing and welfare advice through Shelter and Social Welfare Training. This funding also supported a six-month Job Club programme in Erdington, providing employability guidance and job market navigation support for local residents. From January 2024, with funding from Clarion Futures, we launched a Basic Digital Skills course for Erdington residents with no prior IT experience, helping them develop essential digital literacy and improve their independence and job prospects. From May 2024, once the Clarion grant was spent, we continued expanded this provision with additional employability-focused sessions, funded by The Access Foundation. Community Engagement & Wellbeing Activities: Between November 2023 and July 2024, we partnered with Big Bike Revival and secured small grants from Cycling UK to deliver bike rides, maintenance workshops, and confidence-building sessions. These activities encouraged more residents in north Birmingham to cycle while equipping them with basic bike repair skills. We also organised three major community events: St. Nicholas Celebration (December 2023); The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (GOCC/WOSP) Fundraiser (January 2024); Spring Volleyball Tournament (May 2024) – This event also celebrated Polish Heritage Day; These events were primarily funded by community contributions, both from individuals and small businesses, with significant contribution from the Polish Embassy to the Polish Heritage Day. Health and Social Research: In July 2024, we were awarded a contract by the Public Health division of Birmingham City Council to engage with the Central and Eastern European Roma community and contribute to improving the accuracy of the division’s Health Profile through research and community outreach. ESOL and Immigration Support Expansion: In July 2024, we launched ESOL classes from our office in Kingstanding, improving access to English language learning for local communities. Additionally, in June 2024, we applied for accreditation with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) to provide Level 1 immigration advice, enabling us to further support our communities with immigration-related guidance. Through these initiatives, People For People CIC has provided not only advice and information but also vital education, wellbeing activities, and life skills development, strengthening the diverse communities of north Birmingham and beyond.
Our organisation is led by four directors who meet regularly to strategise and optimise our collective expertise for the benefit of the community. Our vision and plans are informed by organically gathered insights into community needs and gaps in existing services. These insights come from various sources, including direct community engagement, social media feedback, meetings, and feedback forms. Additionally, we collaborate with other non-profit organisations, places of worship, schools, food banks, and city-wide forums to ensure our approach is well-informed and responsive to community priorities.
The aggregate amount paid to or receivable between the four directors in respect of qualifying services was £25,813.40. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
