  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Income represents the amount receivable for market garden produce, delivery of educational programmes and related goods and services supplied stated net of vat and discounts. Capital and revenue grants are recognised as income when receipt is probable, the amount is known and the company is entitled to the income. Grant income is deferred until the company is certain that the grant conditions can be fulfilled.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Fixed assets are capitalised if their useful life is estimated at more than one year and their cost exceeds £500. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets at rates estimated to write off the cost of the assets over their useful lives. The principal rate is 33.3% straight line for all fixed assets. Site and land improvements are depreciated using the straight line method over the period of the lease.

    Other accounting policies

    Expenditure is included on the accrual basis and is recognised when there is a legal or constructive obligation to incur the expenditure. Current tax is recognised on taxable profit for the current and past periods. Current tax is measured at the amounts of tax expected to pay or recover using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted at the reporting date.

Company activities and impact

Greenheart Growers is a Market Garden Project based in Kinghorn, Fife. We are a Community Interest Company; our model allows us to provide positive social outcomes for local community members via a viable business model which generates income via a variety of services. Our positive social impact is summarised in our Business Aims and Objectives: 1: To contribute to a viable local food economy and encourage the development of more ecological / environmentally friendly local food producers. 2: Increase Access to Education, Training and Development Opportunities, relating to Growing, Cooking, Nutrition and Health and Safety. 3: Improve Health and Wellbeing of local community members who interact with our project / services, inspiring them to spend more time outdoors / improve their diet / spend more time in nature / grow their own produce. 4: Increase Community Resilience by providing people local organic produce and the confidence & skills to grow their own; and by upskilling people, building their confidence and offering a sense of belonging 5: Contribute to existing and emerging community networks, for the benefit of a resilient local organic food system 6. To care for the soil, biodiversity and natural resources around us and to encourage local community members to do so. Our current services, PROVIDED THIS SEASON AND RELATING THE FINANCIAL YEAR TO WHICH THIS REPORT RELATES, include; -Sale of Weekly Veg Boxes to immediate and surrounding communities; a full range of Salads, Herbs and Vegetables grown at our market garden, facilitated by local partners / collection points. -Sale of fresh produce to Commercial Partners; restaurants, organic food shops and cafes -Sale of Fresh Produce, to local community members via our Farm Shop -Sale of Seedlings and Plants to the local community via Farm Shop -Greenheart Education Days / Growing Workshops (New 2025) -Provision of three Volunteer Sessions per week, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, educating local people by providing first hand practical experience and instruction in how to grow fresh produce using organic methods -Provision of Community Events hosted at our Market Garden, ran in partnership with other local, neighbouring organisations and local artisans / producers. We have provided the following positive benefits to the local community: - Increased access to education and training - Increased access to locally grown organic produce - Increased opportunity for socialistion and time outdoors - Contribution to a viable local food economy - Increase in biodiversity of the local community
