COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTRE YORKSHIRE CIC

Company Number: 07669567 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 June 2024

Company activities and impact

The company continues to boost employment opportunities for the unemployed/underemployed, through training and careers support. The main emphasis remains assisting graduates to gain the skills and qualifications required to work abroad as an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher, and providing the contacts and careers support to ensure they can find paid, meaningful employment upon completion. To achieve this, the company offers a range of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Courses and provides Scholarship places and discounts to Students and unemployed/underemployed people to expand access as much as possible. The success rate of our students, as defined by the proportion who go on to full-time paid work commensurate with their qualifications, continues to be extremely high and is something the company is very proud of. Former students have now gone on to teach all over the world in more than 23 countries.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are primarily our students and the organisations we work with in the UK and abroad. Amongst other feedback initiatives, students are encouraged to blog about their experience studying, and living and teaching abroad. This is a fantastic way for potential applicants and others considering a career in TEFL to gain an understanding of what life is really like teaching abroad and how the company can help. The company also regularly seeks feedback from its students on how to continue to improve the Courses offered. This leads to frequent improvements to the company's offering. The company is in regular contact with University Careers Centres and other organisations designed to help unemployed graduates. We work together to increase awareness of the opportunities abroad generally, and the company's offering specifically. The company is also in regular contact with potential employers throughout the world, including schools and government agencies, in regard to how our offering can best prepare our students for teaching abroad.
