Achievement and performance |
Charitable activities |
This last year has been a steady year for the Charity as we continue to fund children from around Scotland, enabling them to participate in programmes of Outdoor Learning at Lagganlia. |
To date we have funded 445 young people awarding £56,513 in funds. From July 2023 until June 24 we have granted funding to 31 young people at a cost of £3,950. Due to the Charity being in a better financial position than last year we were able to increase our funding to support applications. We are delighted to be able to continue the Charity's aim to endeavour to 'Leave no one behind'. |
We are continuing to ensure schools hear of us, through Lagganlia, issuing our information and application forms at the time of school bookings. The present system of awarding funding through our Awards committee remains effective. |
Our Board remains stable at present with Una Gillespie - Chair, June Gibson - Secretary, Amanda Leslie - Treasurer. Gemma Coupar and Ian Ross remain trustees. Paul Highet and Stuart Armstrong continue to provide valuable advice and support to the Board. |
Amanda Leslie has shared that she will be stepping down as Treasurer but would like to remain on the committee. The Board require to find a new Treasurer. |
We are pleased to note that we have received donations from private sources and Companies. In particular we received a generous donation form a source who listened to our Charity's presentation at the Annual Rotary Conference in 2022. Our grateful thanks go to all who have contributed donations to our Charity enabling us to continue with our aims. |
The Board gratefully acknowledges the significant contribution made by Donna Reilly, City of Edinburgh Council, regarding the development of our website and for her advice regarding advertising our Charity more widely. |
This coming year we intend to complete the development of our website and explore further publicising and fundraising opportunities to enable the Charity to continue to grow and support disadvantaged young people to benefit from an amazing experience at Lagganlia. |
Thank you to everyone in the team for a successful year and we look forward to moving forward into this next year to achieve our aims and support Outdoor Learning for all young people. |

Report of the Trustees |
For The Year Ended 30th June 2024 |
Financial review |
Reserves policy |
All funds are unrestricted. |
We started the year in a favourable financial position and due to robust fund raising by members of the committee we have been able to support once again children who may not have the opportunity to attend residential outdoor learning. We have paid out this year in awards £3,400 to the end of June 2024 and £489.60 in governance to Goldwells. We have also incurred charges from the bank of £4.90. |
We have had charitable donations of £4,200 up until end of June 2024 and made interest on the accounts of £129.84 up to the end of same period. |
Therefore the account's balance for Friends of Lagganlia at end of financial year is £11,721.50. |
At the start of trading 2023-2024 we have paid £550 to outstanding awards for session 2022-23 and we committed so far in awards for session 2024-25 £1,300 funding. |
At the present time our reserves policy written into our constitution states that a set minimum balance of £1,000 is to be retained in the charity's bank account to cover fundraising expenses and unforeseen financial expenditure. At the present time and due to the financial climate I recommending that this policy continues in to the next financial year as bank charges and cost of governance may increase. |

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of |
Friends of Lagganlia |
I report on the accounts for the year ended 30th June 2024 set out on pages five to nine. |
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner |
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. |
Basis of the independent examiner's report |
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. |
Independent examiner's statement |
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention : |
(1) | which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements |
- | to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and |
- | to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations |
have not been met; or |
(2) | to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. |
