Principal activities of the company

Directors' Report Principal Activities of the Company Somali Community CIC (SCCIC) is a community interest company dedicated to supporting the Somali population in Merton. Founded on June 15, 2020, SCCIC addresses the unique challenges faced by Somali residents, including refugees and disadvantaged groups, by providing essential services and fostering community integration. The principal activities of SCCIC include: Advice and Guidance Services Providing information and support on housing, education, employment, welfare, and health to help individuals and families navigate essential services. Offering referrals and signposting to relevant agencies and organizations. Community Outreach and Integration Supporting refugee integration by assisting with resettlement, cultural adaptation, and community engagement. Running befriending programs for the elderly, women, and youth to combat social isolation. Conducting extensive outreach efforts to ensure no community member is left behind. Women’s Empowerment – "Women Links" Project Organizing cultural events, outings, and language classes to enhance social inclusion. Providing job assistance, form-filling support, and interpreting services to remove language and administrative barriers. Youth and Family Support Offering mother tongue and supplementary classes to preserve cultural heritage and improve educational outcomes. Supporting young people with training, mentoring, and recreational activities. Health and Well-being Initiatives Promoting health awareness and access to medical support through workshops and outreach programs. Addressing mental health and social challenges affecting the Somali community. SCCIC is committed to fostering a sense of belonging, resilience, and self-sufficiency among Somali residents in Merton. Through collaboration with local authorities, charities, and service providers, we strive to build a stronger, more inclusive community where every member has the opportunity to thrive.

Balance sheet statements

For the year ending 30 June 2024 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

Company activities and impact

Somali Community CIC (SCCIC) was founded on June 15, 2020, As there had been no support for our community since 2014 and has since played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of unity and support among the Somali population in Merton. Our core mission is to enhance the overall well-being of Somalis of all ages while actively working towards the successful integration of refugees within our local community. At SCCIC, we are dedicated to providing invaluable guidance and information on a wide range of crucial aspects, including housing, education, employment, welfare, and health. We understand the challenges that individuals and families face during their resettlement journey, and we are committed to helping them navigate these challenges with confidence and resilience. One of our primary functions is to make referrals and offer signposting services, connecting our clients with other essential resources and organisations. We firmly believe that collaboration is the key to building a stronger community. SCCIC is also deeply involved in practical initiatives that directly impact members. E.G befriending programs for the elderly, women, and youth, as well as extensive outreach efforts to ensure that no one is left behind. A notable focus of our work is the "Women Links" project, an innovative endeavor aimed at empowering Somali women. This initiative encompasses a wide range of activities such as cultural events, mother tongue and supplementary classes, outings for both children and adults, interpreting and translation services, and programs designed to assist community members in their job search, filling out forms, and making essential phone calls. we are more than an organisation; we are a family. We are committed to nurturing a sense of belonging, understanding, and support within the Somali community in Merton. Together, we strive for a brighter, more integrated future where every member can thrive.
