BEATS is a not-for-profit advocacy organisation founded by British East and South East Asians [BESEA] working in the Theatre and Screen industry. Our primary goals are to advocate for better representation of BESEAs in arts and culture. Here are the headlines of our recent activity: - Community campaign in support of Chinatown [#weloveChinaTown] - Advocacy campaign regarding Scottish Opera’s Nixon in China - Launch of BEATS Colour Conscious Casting statement - Ongoing work with Channel 4’s Hollyoaks and the release of the first Lunar New Year episode on British Soap - Public statement regarding the racist stereotyping against BESEA journalist Henry Dyer - Advocacy campaign and public statement released regarding the Royal Opera House’s production of Madama Butterfly - Viral campaign regarding yellowface performances in the Edinburgh Fringe - Promotion of ESEA creatives and BESEA work to BEATS extended network via the newly launched newsletter and BEATS social media - Promotion of ESEA heritage month, a new initiative for celebrating ESEA history and work - Promotion of job opportunities and advocacy for hiring ESEA creatives - Advocacy campaign and public statement released regarding Sheffield Theatre’s production of Miss Saigon, garnering signatures from a number of other organisations You can read further details of these activities on our website: https://wearebeats.org
