Illumi Learn CIC is on online teaching and training delivery CIC. Our target audience is people who have not been able to avail themselves of educational opportunities through the usual channels - this may be young people who did not engage well at school, or people who could not access standard educational offerings due to personal circumstances, for example due to be a carer, or a single parent or perhaps through disability. Our ultimate aim is to provide an alternative education route free at the point of delivery - where possible. We are aiming to do this by: - Leveraging funding available from the government to education providers - Utilising funding from charitable sources (accessed via a CIC charitable status) to provide courses for those who do not meet Government funding requirements due to age, employment or previous educational qualifications - Establishing an internal scholarship fund to help those who, for whatever reason, do not meet either of the funding options above. In addition, we aim not only to provide education but to provide career or personal development guidance, advice and support for anyone who needs it in the community. Finally, we understand that distance learning can sometimes be a lonely existence, and also the dangers of social media attacks, such as through cyber bullying, become more acute the more time an individual spends online. We will seek to mitigate this by establishing healthy and supportive forums for distance learning communities, or indeed anyone seeking safe and supportive online communities.
December to June 2024 – Consultation with local communities. The decision was made to reach out to local communities tied to the location of the Directors – Chatham, Kent; Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire; Londonderry, Northern Ireland. This was done using posters and leaflets which were placed in community centres and local coffee shops. Initial feedback was positive in terms of interest in undertaking online courses due to convenience. However, there was limited final uptake in the actual courses. It was determined that this was due to not putting information in a format that would reach our key audience. The outreach should have been focused on general awareness rather than gaining a qualification. June 2024 – Consultation with Tech Sourcerers. As an SME with a number of years of experience in online teaching delivery, we were able to put forward our proposal to the company directors. The outcome of the consultation was a renewed focus on creating teaching materials focused on cyber security awareness, as well as a £2000 donation to support our development. The consultation also gave more ideas on how to better reach out to local communities via posters and leaflets.
