for the Period Ended 31 December 2024

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows: Fixtures, fittings, tools and equipment - 25% Reducing Balance Basis

    Intangible fixed assets amortisation policy

Intangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative amortisation and any accumulative impairment losses.

    Other accounting policies

A current tax liability is recognised for the tax payable on the taxable profit of the current and past periods. A current tax asset is recognised in respect of a tax loss that can be carried back to recover tax paid in a previous period. Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences between the recognition of income and expenses in the financial statements and their inclusion in tax assessments. Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits. Deferred tax is measured using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the reporting date and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference, except for revalued land and investment property where the tax rate that applies to the sale of the asset is used. Current and deferred tax assets and liabilities are not discounted.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PIZZA PALS COMMUNITY PIZZERIA CIC

Company Number: 15056511 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

Pizza Pals Community Pizzeria CIC was registered in August 2023. We began on a small local authority grant and used our existing own equipment to create a regular community pizza night based in Whitby that provided a welcoming social atmosphere, high quality Neapolitan style pizzas at low cost to enable all those in the community to have opportunity to eat good food and socialise with others in their community. From December 2023 word had spread round the local area, and we began working with other charities and local non-profit organisations in the Whitby and Ryedale districts of North Yorkshire creating and providing fun affordable social dining experiences. Key organisations we have worked with include:- WHISH, Whitby Rugby club, Whitby Area Development trust, Carers Plus Yorkshire, Camp Hill Village Trust, Pumpkin Parent Packs, Next Steps Ryedale, Yorkshire Housing, Robinson Institute and Moorview Care. By December 2023 word had spread round the local area, and we began working with other charities and local non-profit organisations in the Whitby and Ryedale districts of North Yorkshire creating and providing fun affordable social dining experiences. Key organisations we have worked with include:- WHISH, Whitby Rugby club, Whitby Area Development trust, Carers Plus Yorkshire, Camp Hill Village Trust, Pumpkin Parent Packs, Next Steps Ryedale, Yorkshire Housing, Robinson Institute and Moorview Care. In the new year 2024 we were offered an opportunity from Whitby Area development Trust to take the lead in re-opening a local community cafe based in the Coliseum Centre Whitby. As the CIC is not limited to selling solely pizzas we were excited at the thought of taking on a new project and continuing to support our local community through providing low cost social dining experiences that were relevant to the local population and much needed in the area. We applied for 10 months worth of funding through the UK shared prosperity grant and we were successful. The cafe currently opens 1 day per week from 9.30 - 2.30pm every Wednesday. Each week we provide a home cooked two course meal for £6.50. To evidence this project, we gave out lunch club cards ‘friends of the coliseum’. From the data collected up till the end of December 2024 we had given out 65 cards. The cafe started slowly and has gradually been building in popularity as word of mouth has spread in Whitby. We ran two special Christmas meals in the month of December which were both fully booked. There is a wide and varied range of people who enjoy accessing the lunch club each week. This includes: - retired people, a regular group of people living with dementia, people living with learning and other impairments, single men and women, homeless people, and families on low incomes. In addition to the lunch club, we also provide a small menu of other low-cost food choices. As part of the project, we always intended to provide two paid jobs and two voluntary opportunities. We currently have one regular volunteer who is living with a learning impairment who joins us each week. We have provided them with formal learning opportunities, and they have been supported to complete all necessary certificates to work safely in the kitchen. We currently employ two people and one person to complete admin tasks. Pizza Pals Community Pizzeria CIC since its inception has stayed true to aims and values stated in the original CIC 36 form. We have consistently created and provided social events and occasions that make a positive difference to people's lives regardless of health status, financial mobility or circumstance. Are prices have remained as low as possible without compromising too much on the quality of food so we can continue to combat food poverty and reach some of our most vulnerable people living in our communities. Our social dining experiences whether that be in the community cafe or a community pizza event are always in accessible local community buildings were everyone is welcome making connections easier and promoting kindness is the local area. With returning customers at all our events we are supporting people to make and maintain meaningful relationships. Working with other socially focused organisations and non-profit groups has been crucial in us being able to meet our aims and objections, building an enlightened service that reduces loneliness and isolation and address social inequalities. We hope we can continue growing and expanding our range of projects and events so local people can benefit from our services.

Consultation with stakeholders

Pizza Pals Community Pizzeria is a community focused organisation, so to ensure we meet the needs of the local populations we work within we consult with a wide variety people and public. We have regular consultations with our local authority and other key socially focused charities and organisations to make sure our services remain targeted and have maximum impact reaching those most in need. This interaction has helped us with our pricing and choice of locations and local groups of people that would most benefit from our service. For example, a discussion with Whitby disability action group has led to advertising our services regularly in their newsletter to give those who access their services opportunity to come and use the cafe. We work regularly in conjunction with Carers Plus Yorkshire combining their groups with our social day and evening events. After consultation with Carers Plus, and have incorporated a discount scheme for Carers Plus customers. We have also started a voucher scheme for our pizza evenings which Carers Plus have paid for. More recently we have been in consultation with Yorkshire Housing to hold our community pizza evenings in their community hubs. These hubs are situated in the middle of large low-income communities where we jointly feel our services can have the most impact and benefit to people who may be at a higher risk of food poverty and loneliness and isolation. We have started a community pizza night in Pickering and are soon to pilot one in Malton. Most of our consultations are done informally as we are regularly in contact with all those we work in partnership with, and we aim to always listen to ideas and ways we can continue to improve our services, so they meet the needs of the local people. Thinking about our future growth and development of new services we are looking into creating an advisory board made up of volunteers and local people who use our services and want to share their thoughts and ideas on maintaining and improving the services we offer.
