COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BRIGHT STARS PRE-SCHOOL COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 07021842 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

Bright Stars Pre-school has provided sessional childcare and education for approximately 1000 children since opening in 2009. We continue to provide early years education for high percentages of children in receipt of income related free entitlement funding for two year olds as well as children in receipt of early years pupil premium. This indicates that we continue to be in a prime position to support those children who are considered to be at a financial disadvantage to achieve better outcomes. We offer 30 hours of free (funded) childcare which is free at point of contact to parents as no consumable charges are made to parents, reducing financial barriers in parents engaging in paid employment. This year we have cared for a high number of children with special educational needs and/ or disabilities and have accessed supportive grant payments from Essex County Council to facilitate lower staff to child ratios or one to one care where necessary. The pre-school has also worked closely with Essex children’s social care team to safeguard a number of children under child protection plans or child in need plans. Our OFSTED inspection in March of 2024 resulted in an Outstanding grading across all areas. We continue to work with the school where we are based to ensure cohesive care and education and to aid smooth transition for children who join the school at age 4 years. We also maintain good relationships with with other local schools that we feed into to support the children that transition to them. Bright Stars Pre-school also liaises with the Local family hub, undertaking integrated two year reviews and team around the family meetings. We sign post parents to sessions at the hub and to support services such as speech and language therapists. The pre-school employs 10 staff members, mainly from the local community and also offers work placements for students undertaking childcare courses or from the local secondary school.

Consultation with stakeholders

We regularly send out questionnaires to parents of the children attending to gain feedback with regards to our service as well as liaising closely with Ongar Primary School, the family hub and parents and children within the local community. After collating information, we then take action on points raised and feedback to our stakeholders. As a result of one consultation we are looking into expanding our provision (subject to being successful in bidding for grants) to offer more early years places as well as wrap around childcare for school aged children. We are pleased to report that all sessions continue to operate at full capacity. The company will continue to listen to and consider the needs of the stakeholders from the local community.

Directors' remuneration

The financial year, the director received a salary of £31,423, inclusive of employers national insurance contributions and pension.

Transfer of assets

No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
