Our mission at Tan Cerdd is to authentically celebrate, promote and amplify Black Welsh Music artists, Black music genres, the Black diaspora in Wales, Black culture and traditions. With a strong focus on empowering and uplifting young Black Welsh artists and media professionals, we stand committed to addressing the existing inequality in access to opportunities, resources, and career advancement by providing dedicated support and a network of industry professionals. Tan Cerdd CIC has made significant progress over the past year, continuing its mission to uplift and support Black and diverse communities, promote cultural exchange, and provide opportunities for emerging artists. Through innovative programming, community-driven events, and international collaborations, Tan Cerdd has positioned itself as a vital force in the Welsh music scene, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and celebrated. During the year Tan Cerdd took over Chapter Arts Centre for a full day to celebrate the Windrush @75 event, featuring a multicultural market, food, books, music, games, talks, poetry, dance, and Caribbean traditions. This event celebrated the contributions of the Windrush generation to Wales and Britain, acknowledging the lasting impact this generation has had on Welsh society. Tan Cerdd also hosted a Black Music Creators Night at the Wales Millennium Centre as part of Black History Month 2023. This vibrant celebration featured live music and entertainment from local diverse communities, providing a platform for both up-and-coming talent and established artists. The event was a major success and showcased the richness and diversity of Black music in Wales. Tan Cerdd has continued to establish successful partnerships with various organisations which have enabled us to program more black music and culture events, furthering our mission of promoting diversity and inclusivity within the Welsh arts sector. These include Chapter Arts, Music & Race Symposium, Trac Cymru, Brecon Jazz Festival, Cardiff Music City Festival, HMP Cardiff and many more. We are actively working towards expanding our programming of black music and culture events. We collaborate closely with our partners to curate engaging and diverse performances, exhibitions, and workshops that celebrate the richness of black artistry and cultural heritage. Through these collaborations, Tan Cerdd aims to foster a vibrant and inclusive arts landscape that reflects the diverse cultural fabric of Wales. We are dedicated to amplifying black voices, promoting representation, and creating spaces where black music and culture can thrive.
The company’s stakeholders are black musicians in Wales. We will continue to grow the database of artists based in Wales and keep our research updated. We are constantly consulting with them and what barriers they face within the arts sector. We have heard a broad range of ideas and opinions and through active engagement, we amplify the voices of young Black Welsh artists, promote their work, and provide networking opportunities to help them excel in their careers. We believe in creating a platform where they can showcase their talents, gain exposure, and access the resources needed for career advancement. Our other stakeholders are the community in which we work and the surrounding areas of Cardiff where we want to spread our message and promote Black History and our overall mission. We have been consulting with local government, local arts organisations and the general public to identify gaps in the market and what demand there is for specific music genres and events that we plan to showcase in the future.
