During the financial year, the Community Interest Company (CIC) made notable contributions to South Doncaster through various initiatives, including publishing two Community Magazines for over 12,000 residents. Since November 2022, nine monthly issues have provided updates for local groups and discounted advertising for businesses. Key achievements include: Employing five local youth who gained skills in accounting and multimedia. Involving over 40 residents in magazine delivery, covering 520,000 steps per issue, supporting the “Get Doncaster Moving” initiative. Engaging 12 young volunteers in the office. Helping local businesses connect with residents, aiding the “Save the High Street” campaign. Organizing the Edlington Gala, which drew over 5,000 visitors post-COVID-19. Enhancing magazine content through regular updates and feedback from community organizations. Providing valuable articles on parenting, online safety, and local insights, tailored to residents' needs.
The company’s stakeholders are residents and businesses in the South of Doncaster, and we encourage young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to participate in the life of the CIC. The Directors of the Company are also residents and businesses people who developed the business model for the CIC based on their vast experience of working, volunteering and understanding of the community we serve. This has included short periods of mentoring from local councillors, charity managers and other similar individuals. We encourage through our magazines, for everyone to send feedback, ideas for content, what to improve and what should be removed or changed. The team has been lucky to receive vast amounts of feedback which has enabled them to better understand the community at large. This has included mentoring from another local magazine company and the Doncaster Chamber, which has enabled the entire team to tailor what is published to appeal to the readers and most importantly to build up a brand awareness which grows the local economy.
