  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.

Company activities and impact

African Community UK CIC has held various activities for the promotion of capacity building, volunteering and relief of financial hardship. These activities have benefited the community in the following ways: - 20 trained individuals under our skill acquisition programme. - 30 new participants committed to fitness and healthy living. - 500 families connected under our loneliness reduction programme. - 150 parent-carers report improve stress levels following our stress management programmes. - 30 migrants from Africa supported financially during the pandemic - 60 migrants supported with accommodation. - 50 people above the age of 60 given basic technology training. - 5 Business Start-ups following our start-up support.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are Africans and members of the BME community resident in UK. The directors of the company have lived in the UK for a number of years and developed the seminar/webinar/online discussion topics based on their experience of talking to other UK residents from the BME community, other minority groups and the government guidelines during the pandemic. We ask all attendees to fill in a short questionnaire about their understanding of seminar topics and changes in their life style, career and business. This has helped us to tailor our seminars to the needs of members and develop plans that would impact stakeholders more effectively. We encourage attendees to invites friends and family to our events. We take suggestions on our social media platforms regarding areas where stakeholders would like to see increased positive impact.
