Company activities and impact

As we reflect on the past year at Almond Boxing Academy C.I.C. we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and excited about what’s ahead. This year, we have welcomed two new directors: Melanie and Mark Howram, both with previous experience in running boxing clubs. Their leadership brings much-needed support and expansion to the work we’ve been doing, strengthening our vision for the future. Our boxing shows continue to be a huge success, running twice a year and providing our registered boxers with the opportunity to showcase their skills, gain awards, and develop their confidence in a structured and supportive environment. In the past year we have welcomed children as young as 10 into the gym, working closely with local schools to support those at risk of disengagement and or even criminal behaviours. This work has once again been praised by South Yorkshire Police and the City of Doncaster Council, reinforcing the vital role we play in providing structured, positive activities for young people. As the only year-round child-focused activity in Thorne, we remain committed to offering a safe, family-based environment that is affordable and accessible, helping to build self-esteem, discipline, and resilience. By doing this, we continue to strengthen our local community and create better outcomes for all.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are all users of the gym and our local towns of Thorne and Moorends. In early 2025 key funding applications were submitted. If successful these will allow us to invest in new equipment and infrastructure to promote growth. Through travel to other boxing gyms, we aim to provide additional sparring opportunities, and broaden the experiences of our younger members, many of whom wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to step outside of their local community. Investing in our members, so they can invest in themselves and their future. Almond Boxing Academy C.I.C. is and has always been more than just a boxing gym, it’s a place where young people can grow, learn discipline, and find purpose. With strong leadership, a committed community, and clear goals for the future, we’re looking forward to another fantastic year.
