Company activities and impact

The Oram Awards is a platform to elevate girls, women and gender expansive artists innovating in sound, music and related technology whose work and voices struggle to be heard. In this financial year, the company supported the careers of eight award-winning artists with financial bursaries of £1,000 each, 1-2-1 mentoring and the opportunities to perform and network at our live event at Kings Place in London in November 2023. The Oram Awards has supported the wider community of women in sound and music through: 1. Our active social media platforms which acts as a hub of information about live events, music releases and other funding and commissioning opportunities for not only the awarded artists but the online community. 2. With over 100 applications from a public open call in 2023 we show that we are an accessible and inclusive program. 3. Our live event at Kings Place in London featured sound workshops that were open to the public, as well as a Q&A session with past and present winners discussing how technology enables a safe exploration of identity. Additionally, there was a networking event for previous and current winners, partners, and organizations that support the program. A small travel bursary was offered to participants coming from outside London. The event was sold out, with 500 people attending and engaging in various activities throughout the day. 4. In 2023, our team welcomed a new female producer. She is a sound artist based in Manchester, bringing valuable lived experience of the sound world and contributing to her career development within the team.
