Company activities and impact

We successfully applied for the DLUHC BN(O) Welcoming Programme VCSE Year 3 regional funding of £40,000 in the financial year June 2023 to May 2024. This funding allowed us to implement a project aimed at improving the employability of Hong Kongers and facilitating their sense of belonging and integration into the local community. During the funding period, we conducted the following activities:- 4 Sessions of Informal English Speaking Classes: A total of 20 lessons to help Hongkongers to improve language proficiency and reduce language barriers. Overall, students' self-rated scores for fluency and confidence in speaking English increased from an average of 4.31 and 3.97 to 6.65 and 6.57respectively. Overall satisfaction with the course was high, with a rating of 8.95 out of 10.- 8 Online Webinars: Focused on enhancing employability skills. On average more than 60 participants in each webinar, and more than 90% of respondents rated 7 or above out of 10 for the usefulness of the content in the webinars.- Co-organised Workshops With Local Charity: Educating Hong Kongers on buying and renting properties. 3 webinars and 1 workshop has been successfully organised collaborating with IPC and the Harbour HK project. About 300 participants participated with positive feedback.- 4 Festival Celebration Events: Including Mid-Autumn Festival, Bonfire Night, Christmas, and Lunar New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival event attracted more than 200 people, including local residents and minority groups, while the Christmas event attracted nearly 100 participants. Bonfire Night was smaller in scale but still attracted 30 participants. The Lunar New Year event was held in collaboration with Leeds Kirkgate Market, which was estimated to have more than 2,000 visitors on that day.- Business Hotline: Providing support and guidance especially in catering/food business and related employment enquiries. We have received on average 2 enquires per day and 1.5 calls per week. The business consultant handled all enquires and provided professional advice.- 5 Sessions of Work Experience in Catering Services: Offering practical experience to participants. 15 Hong Kongers after obtaining satisfactory results in the informal English-speaking classes and the Level 2 food safety and hygiene training have participated in the work experience. Satisfaction with the work experience was high, with 100% of participants rating it 8 out of 10 for satisfaction and an average rating of 8.5 out of 10 for usefulness of the experience.- 2 Community Cohesion Gatherings: the International Friendship Festival and the Intercultural Exchange Lunch. More than 50 non Hong Kongers attended the sessions, providing successful opportunities for Hong Kongers to practice their English-speaking skills and engage with diverse communities, e.g. Ukrainians, other minority groups. Overall satisfaction for this event was high, with 100% of respondents rating it 8 or above in terms of satisfaction for the overall event. Besides the funded project, we have established long-term collaborative relationships with national Hong Konger organisations such as Hong Kongers in Britain, Hong Kong Business Hub. Together, we have provided various workshops and webinars to the Hong Kong community, ensuring a wide reach and impact. Additionally, we collaborate with local groups like Hunslet Community Litter Picks and Library, Friends of Hunslet Moor Park, and Friends of Aire, to organise various volunteering activities, primarily focused on litter picking. These collaborations enhance community engagement and foster a sense of collective responsibility
