    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Tangible assets are included at cost less depreciation and impairment. Depreciation has been provided at the following rates in order to write off the assets over their estimated useful lives.

Company activities and impact

The Friends of Birchwood Forest Park C.I.C. operates a cafe located in Birchwood Forest Park. The building is owned by Warrington Borough Council, but the cafe is solely operated by The Friends Group. It is for the benefit of Birchwood and its environs residents, by providing an affordable service and enhancing the park in general. The cafe provides a meeting place and refreshments. The refreshments are sold at affordable prices and includes cakes baked by volunteers. Whilst the cafe is open, there is no obligation to buy from the cafe in order to use the facilities. Profits made are primarily used to further benefit the park and those who visit it e.g. new benches, wildflowers and free to attend events. Remaining profits are used to support Birchwood residents in other ways, such as helping other good causes in the area.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are the volunteers who work in the cafe and the local residents who use its facilities. All the directors are residents of Birchwood, so they are aware of the challenges faced by the community. Birchwood has a high percentage of social housing and many low-income households. The company are extremely lucky to have 28 committed volunteers, who also all live in Birchwood. They are representative of the community as a whole and are consulted and involved in decisions made by the company.

Directors' remuneration

No remuneration was received by the directors.

Transfer of assets

Donation of £875 to Birchwood’s Little Lunch Club, to cover 6 months room rental. Donation of £160 Cure Parkinson’s in support of one of our members who has been diagnosed with Parkinsons. Donation of £200 Mosslands Sheltered accommodation for Christmas party & hampers for the elderly residents. Donation of £200 St Joseph’s Family Centre to help towards food hampers for families in need at Christmas.
