The HOPE Atrium is a London-based community Interest Company that exists to t disrupt the social and economic inequalities disproportionately impacting on the UK Black communities. It aims to bring HOPE:- health, opportunities, participation (in society), and empowerment to these communities. In the period July 2023 to June 2024, the HOPE Atrium continued to focus on its FromSurviving to Thriving (FS2T ) project. This project is designed to engage. educate and empower people from Black communities to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Statistical evidence indicates that when compared to their representation in the general population, Black communities are nearly 4 times over-represented in inpatient psychiatric institutions. They are 6 times more likely than people from white communities to enter those services through coercion and arrest under the Mental Health Act. During the period, we:- 1. Continued to educate Black Communities about mental health and wellbeing by- a. offering open mental health awareness events b. Designing, developing, producing, and distributing 11 monthly newsletters to stakeholders. 2. Partnered with local community organisations that support people with mental health problems (diagnosed and undiagnosed) to boost it's capacity. 3. Continued to support the on-going development of FS2T community by 1-2-1 conversations and mental health conversation supervision sessions. 4. Developed a digital infrastructure for gathering and assessing data about the impact that the FS2T champions are having towards the improvement of mental health and webing in their social networks.
The stakeholders are: - Participants of our mental health awareness workshops and webinars. - Alumni of past training programs - Community and faith partners - Funders of our work - Staff and volunteers. The stakeholders have been consulted by:- - Conducting semi-structured interviews with community and faith partners. - Funders are consulted by producing quarterly reports on our work which outline our proposed solutions to social problems about which we share concerns and by meeting with them two or three times a year to discuss outcomes, and impacts of our work and to consider leanings emerging from our work. - Participants in workshops and webinars are consulted by surveys and feedback sheets. - Alumni by survey, feedback sheets semi-structured interviews, and group discussions. - Staff and volunteers by themed discussions. - Developing a Webapp that enables our wellbeing champions to give feedback on the work they do in their social networks and that enables us to be able to identify what further support is needed.
