We successfully hosted a tent pegging event that brought together participants and spectators from diverse backgrounds. This traditional sport, which involves riders striking ground targets with lances while mounted, took place over a weekend on 23 June 2024 and featured exciting competitions, engaging demonstrations, interactive community workshops, cultural exhibits, and a variety of food stalls. Our goal was to celebrate the sport, preserve local traditions, and create a meaningful community gathering. We were proud to have supported three charities: - Society for Deaf Children - One Community - Forget Me Not The tent pegging event successfully promoted community cohesion and cultural heritage by showcasing this historic sport and educating attendees about its historical and cultural significance. It encouraged social interaction, providing opportunities for individuals from different backgrounds to connect and engage with one another. The event also had a positive impact on the local economy, attracting visitors who supported local businesses such as hotels and restaurants. It served as a recreational and social outlet, promoting physical activity and strengthening community spirit. Riders and teams had the opportunity to showcase their skills while engaging with the community, and residents enjoyed a unique cultural experience that enhanced local pride. Local vendors benefited from increased foot traffic and sales, and young people were introduced to this traditional sport, fostering new interests and skills. The event ran successfully from Saturday morning to Sunday evening, and based on the enthusiastic response and community participation, we hope to establish it as an annual tradition, growing each year. To promote the event, we effectively utilised social media campaigns on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We also engaged with newspapers, radio stations, and TV channels, ensuring widespread awareness. Flyers and posters were distributed locally, and our website and email newsletters played a crucial role in keeping the community informed. Building on our previous successful community gatherings and tent pegging demonstrations, this event reached a larger audience and made a significant impact. By welcoming participants from diverse backgrounds, including different ages and skill levels, we fostered inclusivity and collaboration. Organising social gatherings, such as picnics around the event, provided informal settings for people to connect and build relationships. The event was free for both participants and the community. It also served as an opportunity to raise funds for local charities supporting individuals in need. To ensure broad participation, we promoted the event through social media, local newspapers, and community bulletin boards. Through this initiative, our tent pegging community event contributed to building stronger relationships, improving local spaces, supporting personal development, and assisting those facing economic challenges.
