Company activities and impact

We have been very busy conducting many activities in the Year. We conducted three day Mental Health Awareness Workshops in May 2024 in three different locations in Liberia, Todee, Duport Road and Arthington. We spoke to 90 attendees in total. It was a successful event with the town chiefs in these locations asking for a follow-up. The impact of the workshops led to an invitation from Ecowas Radio Station, a local radio station, to discuss on air what mental health involves, and questions were included from the public. Front Page Africa Newspaper also wrote a story about the workshops and the significance of raising mental health awareness in a country with a population of 5.4 million and one mental health hospital. At this event, food and refreshments were provided for the delegates We also conduct a once-a-month Communities Peer Support Group to foster a safe place for discussion, normalising the narrative around mental health and reducing stigma for September, October and November 2024 in Todee District, Liberia, West Africa. The workshop involved communities’ engagement around mental health issues, the first to be held in this town. The delegates feedback was that they value the information shared and were taken aback by the unawareness of how damaging stigma can be to an individual. At each meeting, we had to provide transportation to bring delegates from their villages and food each day. The Mental health football tournament in December 2024 was very successful. The football tournament engaged young men in interaction and discussion around mental health issues relating to trauma. The prize of USD 50.00 was presented to the winning team. We continued to spread the word on Mental Health by distributing approximately 10,000 leaflets and flyers in communities across Monrovia, Liberia, to raise awareness on general mental health, trauma and mental health issues. Because of its success, RBMHAW is being contacted by schools and organisations in Liberia, asking for leaflets and flyers to be distributed or displayed at their institutions. The information is easy to read and covers different mental health issues that are related to Liberia. We have Ongoing Weekly Project called "The Megaphone Street Campaign" which involves mental health messages and jiggles played via megaphone in Liberian English in the marketplaces and streets, raising awareness and planting a seed of curiosity. This ongoing project is a community outreach engaging individuals with limited or no access to the internet or resources. The information played on the megaphone is recorded in Koloqua and targets those in marketplaces, bus stations and the public. On the 21st March, we hosted a dinner/dance Afrobeats meet Disco fundraiser to fund April’s project: “Taking Mental health to the streets”. We raised minus the expense of £1070.90. Our Next Project in April 2025 is a five-day street campaign, “Taking Mental Health to the Street”. The idea is to engage with the layman who is uneducated and has zero access to resources or awareness.
