Company activities and impact

During the financial year 2023-2024, the company has run cultural events, courses and retreats focusing on connecting people, and in particular, those who might identify as Jewish - culturally, ethnically and/or spiritually including youth, families & young adults with nature-connection, the outdoors and regenerative food and farming practices. During the Company’s second financial year the company’s activities benefited the community by: Retreats and gatherings - gathering a total of 100 young adults across 4 low-cost retreats to celebrate jewish culture, festivals, and educate about regenerative farming, practical food growing skills and jewish nature-connection, including: Family Camp - Bringing together over 20 families from across the UK for 4 days at May Hill Woodlands in Gloucestershire, to learn about ecology, environmentalism and regenerative farming through personal development, youth empowerment and community building. Sukkot Retreat - Gathering 25 young adults for a low-cost retreat to celebrate the autumnal harvest time, evaluate our community building work and reflect on hopes and goals for Miknaf Ha’aretz CIC going forward. Revolutionary Shepherdess Camp - Learning about regenerative sheep farming as a response to climate change and building relationships with local farmers focusing on ecological practices. Riverlation Canoe Camp - Building community and sense of affinity and connection with the River Dart on a 2 day canoe camp in conjunction with Canoe Adventures. Radical Farm Camp - Bringing together a group of 15 young adults for a highly subsidised training week learning practical organic food growing skills, while reflecting on jewish relationships with food and farming, exploring ancestral cultural pathways around food and planning different activities we could work on together to build more access to delicious, nourishing, organic food to those who need it. Zine Publication - Bringing together a diversity of jewish writers, thinkers, activists and artists to contribute to a publication exploring our community's response to land, belonging, migration, displacement. Offering this publication to the wider community on a sliding scale. Shop - Through our online shop we have provided our community with the opportunity to support jewish artists and purchase ecologically-produced cultural products. Online course - 6 week virtual course exploring ‘Land Justice’, bringing together 15 presenters from diverse cultural backgrounds to discuss land-based activism, migration, belonging and to celebrate multi-cultural diversity in the UK, reaching over 200 unique participants and bringing marginalised voices to a wider audience. The Wild Jewish Year Virtual Journey - Bringing together 30 participants in a year-long cohort journey to deepen ecological literacy, build community and offer community for those not able to access in person programming due to geography or physical access needs.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are members of the UK Jewish community. This is a community we have worked with throughout our lives and the local Devon community for the last four years. We built the activities outlined out of the feedback and suggestions made from this community over the course of the last couple of years of working together. We have a continual process of receiving feedback - through written feedback forms and notes from evaluation sessions, both for our immersive in person retreats and online learning series we offered. We have surveyed our own mailing list of 700 people finding out what our community wants to see in the future. We converse regularly with our community in person and online through our social media presence. Much of our community’s needs have remained the same - Community members are looking for spaces to connect to nature whilst also being able to bring and feel safe in their expression of Jewish culture and identity. Many in our community are on low income so sliding scale and low-cost with free bursary options is essential, so we are making sure to continue fundraise to make this possible. Some community members are wishing to be more engaged and we are now in the process of setting up a membership system which will provide more opportunity for shaping the work of our CIC into the future.

Directors' remuneration

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £14,881 There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed
