Company activities and impact

The Southern Music Project CIC is dedicated to making music accessible to people of all ages in the Havant and Waterlooville communities. We achieve this through a range of initiatives, including education, enrichment, and entertainment. Founded in May 2023, we have already made a meaningful impact. Local residents have benefited from free trial lessons in a variety of musical instruments, offered both individually and in groups. These sessions have been part of initiatives such as ‘Learn to Play’ events and hands-on experiences at local community fetes. In our first year alone, we delivered 319 instrumental and vocal lessons, taught by three educators across two locations. Our collaboration with local businesses and community groups has led to outstanding performances and memorable experiences for both participants and audiences. We are especially proud of two key initiatives: the Havant Harp Group, a weekly meeting that brings together harp enthusiasts of all skill levels, and the Southeast-Hampshire Youth Orchestra, a youth-led ensemble supported by the Southern Music Project, our dedicated volunteers, and in partnership with the Havant Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, through partnerships with local community music groups, we have hosted free and low-cost concerts and workshops in schools and local music venues. These performances have not only showcased local talent but also inspired and uplifted both performers and audiences alike.
