This year we have continued to hold a monthly group for parents at a local library. Parents come along for a cuppa and chat with other parents whose children are ADHD/ Autistic – diagnosed or not. They can also ask Shelley questions, if they want advice or guidance. We have also facilitated the weekly adult ADHD group through Northumberland Recovery College, with adults looking to chat with others who are considering or going through a diagnosis of ADHD. We continue to offer the digital course for parents about understanding and communicating with their child in a different way to build stronger connections. We have also done 1-2-1 sessions with parents on this same topic, as well as worked with children on understanding themselves better, being able to communicate their feelings to form a stronger connection with themselves and those around them too. We have supported both adults and children with The Safe and Sound Protocol music listening therapy, enabling them to know their own nervous system better and be more able to advocate for themselves. We have continued to support children, many that are neurodivergent, with Maths and English tutoring through our individualised tutoring programme. We delivered some workshops in a local primary school in Neurodiversity Celebration Week, helping children to see their own strengths and celebrate individual brain differences. We also continued the pilot of a programme for Year 6 pupils, aimed at helping them to better understand their strengths and in doing so to build their self-esteem and confidence. Shelley offered a free live and recorded webinar to the members of the Facebook group several times in the year, as well as offering free resources, such as journals and guides, that people could access by signing up on a form. A newsletter was also sent to those on a mailing list a few times each month, with stories, guidance and access to free resources.
We are in conversation with parents in our Facebook group, in webinars as well as at the in-person group, finding out what kind of support they want and need for themselves and for their children. We also asked teachers for input during and after the pilot programme as well as the workshops, so that we could tailor those to be relevant and suitable for the children. Parents and other adults interested in the services that Complex Connexions offer are invited to book a free 30-minute consultation with Shelley to explain what kind of support they are looking for, for themselves or their child. 1-2-1 sessions are always tailored to suit the individual’s needs, and a collaborative approach is used in all that we offer. People that accessed our free resources are always asked to provide feedback, so that we can assess if these are helpful to them, to inform our creation of further resources and support.
These details are provided in the accounts.
