Burnham Wharf Heritage's ambition is to maintain, restore and recover key parts of Burnham Water front that represented the traditional boat yards and engineering company which spread along the frontage of the Burnham town river. This area is designated as a conservation area. At the western end, the yards of Kings Boat Yard, Tucker Browns and the engineering company of Crouch Engineering have completely disappeared from the water front but the wharfs and jetties of these companies have remained but have slowly deteriorating over the thirty years since the estate of Kings Wharf development replaced these businesses. Burnham Wharf Heritage plans to restore these wharfs and jetties as a key reminder of the huge part these traditional yards played in the history of Burnham, the contribution to the town's income and employment, and the important contribution all these companies, and others, played in two world wars.
The company's stakeholders are the bodies that have a vested interest in this project Environment Agency Crouch Harbour Authority Burnham Town Council Maldon District Council Marine Management Organisation Natural England We have kept in regular contact with the above of our plans for the wharf.
