Investments
Listed Investments
Listed investments are initially measured at cost, including any directly attributable transaction costs. Subsequent to initial recognition, listed investments are measured at fair value, based on market prices at the reporting date.

Changes in fair value are recognised in Other Comprehensive Income in the period in which they arise. Where fair value cannot be reliable measured, the investment is carried at cost less any impairment losses.

At each reporting date, the company assesses whether there is objective evidence that a listed investment is impaired. Any impairment losses identified are recognised immediately in the other comprehensive income.

Unlisted Investments
Unlisted investments are initially measured at cost , including directly attributable transaction costs. Subsequent to initial recognition, where a reliable measure of fair value is available, unlisted investments are measured at fair value at the reporting date, with changes in fair value recognised in the profit and loss account.

Where fair value cannot be reliably measured, investments are carried at cost less any impairment losses.
At each reporting date, the company assesses whether there is objective evidence that an investment is impaired. Any impairment losses identified are recognised immediately in the profit and loss account.

Financial Instruments
The company has elected to apply the provisions of Section 11' Basic Financial Instruments' and Section 12 ' Other Financial Instruments Issues ' of FRS 102 to all of its financial instruments.

Financial instruments are recognised in the company's statement of financial position when the company becomes party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.

Basic financial assets
Basic financial assets, which include debtors, and cash and bank balances, are initially measured at transaction price including transaction costs and are subsequently carried at amortised cost using the effective interest method unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where the transaction is measured at the present value of the future receipts discounted at a market rate of interest. Financial assets classified as receivable within one year are not amortised.

Derecognition of financial assets
Financial assets are derecognised only when the contractual rights to the cash flows from the asset expire or are settled, or when the company transfers the financial asset abd substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership to another entity, or if some significant risks and rewards of ownership are retained but control of the asset has transferred to another party that is able to sell the asset in its entirety to an unrelated third party.

Significant judgements and estimates
In the application of the company's accounting policies, management is required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying values of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and underlying assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.

The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised if the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods if the revision affects both current and future periods.

a) Critical judgements in applying the entity's accounting policies

The company makes estimates and assumptions concerning the future. The resulting accounting estimates will, by definition, seldom equal the actual results. The estimates and assumptions that have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying value of assets and liabilities within the next financial year are addressed below:

(i) Impairment of debtors

The company makes an estimate of the recoverable value of trade and other debtors. When assessing impairment of trade and other debtors, management considers factors including the current credit rating of the debtor, the ageing profile of debtors and historical experience. See note 6 for the net carrying amount of the debtors.
