Stirchley Art Room CIC – Director’s Report Year Ending 31 August 2024 About Us Stirchley Art Room CIC exists to support personal development, wellbeing and community connection through creative exploration of art, craft and design. We provide a safe, inclusive and inspiring space offering free and accessible art activities, workshops and events for people of all ages and backgrounds. We support artists and makers, collaborate on community projects, and aim to be responsive, sustainable and community-led in all we do. Highlights of 2023–24 The Great Stirchley Sketchbook Circle engaged 595 people through art workshops, storytelling sessions, sketchbook swaps and takeaway packs. The project celebrated Stirchley’s cultural identity and culminated in an exhibition and community-produced Almanac. We expanded our weekly art clubs with two new Wednesday sessions supported by Birmingham City Council’s Prevention & Communities Fund, alongside our long-running Monday Art Club (funded by Selly Oak NNS) and Evening Art Club, our busiest session to date. Across all clubs we introduced new creative processes, including marbling, bookbinding, textile printing and intaglio printmaking. Participants reported improved wellbeing, skills, and confidence. We supported artists and makers to exhibit in Birmingham Open Studios, sell at Stirchley Community Market, and deliver workshops as part of our funded projects. We deepened our partnership with Friends of Stirchley Library, linking our Wednesday sessions with a new day of volunteer-led library opening. We contributed to library advocacy campaigns, supporting participants to respond creatively to proposed cuts and closures. We delivered workshops for Moseley Hive and the Canal & River Trust, expanding our reach through commissioned work. Looking Ahead We remain committed to providing free, high-quality creative opportunities that reflect the interests and needs of our community. In the year ahead, we will continue to grow in a sustainable way, strengthen partnerships, and champion creativity as a vital force for wellbeing and social connection.
