| Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. |

| Investment properties are held for long term rental returns or for capital appreciation or both. They are not occupied by the Company or its holding company. |
| Investment properties are measured initially at cost. After initial recognition, investment properties are remeasured to fair value at each balance sheet date with fair value gains and losses being reported in the income statement. |
| Fair value is based on valuations carried out by the directors considering factors such as the length of lease, average yields on similar properties, both in the Company's portfolio and in general, and the market conditions in the surrounding area. The fair value of the investment properties reflects the market conditions at the balance sheet date. |
| Deferred taxation is provided for on the gains and losses resulting from changes in the fair value of investment properties at rates expected to apply should the properties be disposed of. |
| The gain or loss attributable to investment properties, net of the related deferred tax, is transferred to a non-distributable reserve. |
