COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

COAST COMMUNITY RADIO AND MEDIA CIC

Company Number: 11260212 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 5 April 2024

Company activities and impact

- Bayside Radio, the trading name of Coast Community Radio and Media CIC has provided another successful year of broadcasting and supporting the community, principally in the Bay of Colwyn and Conwy County areas on a range of broadcast platforms including DAB+ Digital Radio, Smart Speaker, Podcast, Social Media and Website. During this time, the 24-hours-a-day service has continued to provide support to residents and those living principally in areas of economic disadvantage, and with very specific social issues. Through the dissemination of valuable information, entertainment, help and advice and partnerships with third sector organizations specializing in areas such as employment/training, mental health, fitness, economic development, wellbeing and education, Bayside has provided a valuable resource for local people and organizations wishing to reach out to potential service users and prospective volunteers.- Bayside has again received a number of testimonials from partner organizations praising the station's contribution towards the delivery of community support and its enthusiasm to ensure that other local groups and organisations receive airtime and promotion at no cost tothemselves. This has been particularly important as local media including newspapers and commercial radio have restricted the amount of ultra-local, community orientated stories and content that they feature. This is partly as a result of commercial considerations but also as a result of a reduction in local resources, such as shared newsrooms and networked output from town and cities located outside Conwy county and even North Wales. The station has significantly increased the number of visitors which consume and benefit from content in the past 12 months, from a 2022/23 average of c. 15,000 to 26.000. Podcasts and content-on-demand has experienced a sizeable upturn, and it is evident that increased awareness of Bayside is further contributing to success. Furthermore, the number of volunteers regularly participating in projects at Bayside have increased to just under 25 and in partnership with Conwy Culture and Disability Arts Wales, additional volunteers, some with very specialized needs, are finding a voice and role at Bayside.- Work experience has been a key part of Bayside during the year, with 6 local students from College Landrillo contributing to and learning at the station over a number of weeks each. Providing professional and employability skills to younger people has been an important objective for Bayside this year and extended to a Comic Relief supported project to involve young Youth Sheds participants in the production of mental health orientated podcasts. Bayside has also partnered in the production of a weekly 'Wellbeing Podcast' in conjunction with Tape Community Music and Film and is also supporting local charity Crest Co-Operative in the establishing of their own Community Radio service

Consultation with stakeholders

Stakeholders of Coast Community Radio and Media CIC include station volunteers, third sector organizations who rely on support for their social action and charitable projects and consumers/listeners of station content both online and via radio broadcasting.-Volunteers are a key resource for CCRM CIC and are frequently consulted on the direction and strategy of the station, both informally on a one-to-one basis and at the station's Annual General Meeting. Furthermore, there were a number of further of development meetings across the year in which the station directors sought the collective opinion of the team on management and editorial direction. It is crucial for the station to closely reflect the issues and concerns of the local community and reflect this in the type of programming and content which is supported and created. Volunteering is open to anyone living in the local community, and we welcome everyone's input in the shaping of our community service.- CCRM CIC consistently consults with three locally based steering organisations whose role is to develop local strategy around community projects and resilience. It is through these and direct relationships, that station volunteers are able to assist third sector organisations in reaching project goals and objectives. CCRM CIC is an active member of Community and Voluntary Support Conwy (CVSC) and meets regularly with officers and trustees from Together For Colwyn Bay (Building Communities Trust Wales). CCRM CIC is also on the steering committee of the Bay of Colwyn Town Team and utilizes this position to consult with members on the key priorities for the area, both in terms of economic and community development. This year, the station, in conjunction with a number of Third Sector organisations, launched a project to increase accessibility to station content and volunteering from those with special needs or disability. The station invites constant feedback from listeners and provides a platform for debate, comment and content development. There are published studio telephone numbers, webforms and comment boxes which enable content consumers to express their view and influence what is expressed and spoken about on air. Furthermore, the station's outreach podcasting and wellbeing projects with young people and the Bay of Colwyn Town Team, provided crucial feedback and insight on the needs and wants of the local community.
