Ickleford Community Larder CIC operates a food rescue service, collecting surplus food, often past its best-before date but still perfectly safe to eat, from local supermarkets. This rescued food is then made available to residents of Ickleford and surrounding areas, helping to reduce food waste and divert it from landfill. In most cases, food is offered free of charge, though donations are welcomed. These donations are used to purchase essential items such as store cupboard staples, toiletries, and cleaning products, which are distributed to individuals and families experiencing hardship due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. Between August 2023 and July 2024, the Larder supported 80 families, including 65 who were identified as struggling financially. Through this initiative, the CIC continues to promote sustainability, community support, and dignity in access to food and basic essentials.
