COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

LEIGH,ATHERTON,TYLDESLEY HERITAGE GROUP CIC

Company Number: 15066933 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

This was the first year of the Leigh Atherton Tyldesley Heritage Group CIC which was incorporated on the 13th August 2023. As this was our first year of operation, the year was spent establishing our local role in promoting local heritage and pursuing the preservation of key local buildings. In this regard our attention was drawn to the former Tyldesley Technical School which had been closed as the King’s Church and had been acquired by a developer for conversion into apartments. Initially we expressed interest in leasing one floor for local community and heritage uses. When the wider scheme became unviable, the group began to explore the possibility of leasing the entire building as a community hub.

Consultation with stakeholders

During the year we established regular meetings of persons interested in local heritage and began work on social media and by the end of the financial year we had over 2000 followers on our facebook site. Thanks to Michael Caine and Ray Urbani for their work on this. For information we now have 6200 followers interested in local heritage. We have worked hard during the year to gain credibility with potential local community partners and have enjoyed beneficial links with a range of local partners with particularly strong links being forged with nearby heritage attractions. Tyldesley Parish Church (grade 2 listed), ForTyldesley CiC, Trustees of Morts Astley Heritage Trust (Grade II* Listed), Lancashire Mining Museum (Scheduled Monument), Wigan and Leigh Archives, Culture, Arts and Heritage -Wigan Council, Local councillors and community groups.
