Assistplus focused on increasing our engagements with the veteran community during the year and facilitated the co-ordinating of services at our local Veteran Advisory Support Hub (VASH). The hub has been serving as an information channel for locally based veterans and their families in the area of employment, education, housing, healthcare and childcare. Having a bespoke hub has increased economic wellbeing of the users – easy access to resources/economic security, skills and training opportunities. Our drop-in model, which enable veterans to receive the level of support appropriate to them, from intense 1-2-1 employments mentoring to an opportunity to meet informally with other veterans in a friendly environment was hugely affected during the first locked down. However, we reopened our 1-2-1 services at all our location during the reporting period. Virtual services via MS Zoom/MS Teams continued. Our hybrid delivery mode enabled us reached out and supported over 120 residents, including veterans and their families in Bristol & South Gloucestershire area. Our new purpose-built website served as a point of contact and to better advertised the organisation services. We saw an increased use of the drop-In centre activities during the reporting period. Most of the support services covered employment, education & skills, health & wellbeing, and housing. We empowered our service users by giving them information and confidence to access services and entitlements to build their lives. We will participate in training workshops and public awareness events across South Gloucestershire and surrounding areas.
The organisation considers it stakeholders to be those who have the interest of Ex-Servicemen and Women of the British Armed Forces at heart, local businesses and local authorities who have voluntarily signed the Armed Forces Covenant, veterans and their families residing and working in South Gloucestershire area and those who provide financial support to the Company. Assistplus continued to perform reviews on existing support to veterans in partnership with other Service Charities and local authority. We participated in and /or influence over local decision making and policies, particularly involvement in public decision-making including access to information, meaningful consultations. We participated in recent census, which for the first time identified veterans and ensured that veteran community are acknowledged and more importantly taken into consideration regarding education, housing, health, employment and other key issues affecting veterans. The Company seeks the opinion of its stakeholders regularly and will take into consideration any valid feedback and concerns.
