COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

Year Ending: 31 July 2024

Company activities and impact

Women in Tech Dorset is a Community Interest Company focused on creating a safe space for women and allies to connect, learn and grow, whilst seeking to improve and celebrate diversity in technology and technology-enabled businesses in Dorset. In the financial year from July 2023 Women in Tech Dorset has benefitted this community in the following ways: Four face to face community events, featuring local speakers at different stages in their career and highlighting the breadth of tech and tech enabled employers in the area. These have reached an audience of over 150 women and allies. These events have purposefully been held in rural parts of Dorset as well as the more densely populated conurbations, to reach those who are in more danger of being isolated from the community. One webinar and a further two recorded interviews with global thought leaders. Curating and publishing the Women in Tech Dorset Playbook; in the first stage this is a set of conditions and activities that have been identified by the community as supporting best practice in recruiting, developing and retaining women in tech. Delivered STEM activities to five young people, enabling parents to participate in face to face networking sessions.

Consultation with stakeholders

Attendees of events are the Women in Tech Dorset CIC community, and events have focused on best recruiting practice, the support available for career entrants and what women look for in an organisation where they can grow and thrive. Through focused networking discussion, the community has contributed to the Playbook, and identified potential ways in which employers can support. Through panel discussion and personal career journeys, the community has learnt about different experiences and found support when seeking to grow. Suggestions are always welcomed, and activities reported through the Dorset Digital Skills Partnership.
