MARU KARATE KAI CIC is a sports for development group which aims to provide free or low cost karate sessions to young people living in the Basildon, Essex region. The CIC was set up to facilitate a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund’s Million Hours Grant which looks to create additional hours of youth activity across the United Kingdom. Our karate club works on three main aims: to improve self confidence in young people, increase participation in physical activity and create a greater sense of pride in our local community. In the last tax year, we have been able to create 104 additional hours of youth activity, provided free to the local community. 53 young people have taken part in our provision throughout this time. The club has also created four volunteer positions for our young adult members, as well as two opportunities for parents who are now giving their time back to make our community a better place.
