Unseen Victims CIC exists to support families and loved ones affected by a relative’s involvement in the UK criminal justice system. In the year ending 31st March 2025, the organisation has made significant progress in offering emotional, practical, and financial support to nearly 2,000 families. Through peer-to-peer networks, telephone and webchat services, awareness campaigns, and educational resources, Unseen Victims has addressed the often-overlooked needs of indirect victims of crime. The organisation has also expanded its reach through partnerships with universities, published reports on the cost of imprisonment, and engaged with national policymakers to advocate for justice reform. Its work has improved mental wellbeing, reduced isolation, strengthened family ties, and promoted community understanding of the challenges faced by families impacted by incarceration.
Stakeholders include families of those in custody, volunteers, community partners, universities, policymakers, and support organisations. Stakeholders have been consulted through social media engagement, weekly check-ins, peer discussions, feedback from our support line, campaign responses, and survey input. Actions taken include the development of tailored mental health initiatives, travel support, and lived-experience-led campaigns based on direct stakeholder input.
