During the financial year 2023-2024 the company has organised multiple free art and culture workshops for the local Edinburgh Southside community as well as migrant communities in Scotland. It helped develop community bonds between local residents and the newcomers. It organised events promoting cycling in Edinburgh (Our Streets Project), meeting opportunity of EU citizens as well as space for Scottish citizens to find out about migration (Festival of Freedom). Beetroots Collective also runs a Polish Film Club that shows Polish films with English subtitles, making Polish culture accessible and understandable for everyone who would like to find out about it. The company's activities have benefited the community in the following ways: - local residents of Edinburgh Southside - by organising free arts and cultural events, creating a safe meeting space, and providing free hot soup in the cold months - members of minority communities - by inviting them to free events and helping them establish lasting relationships with the local residents and the local community - Organising free outdoor projection events accessible to everybody, - The organisation provided freelance employment to 7 members of the migrant community Together, they've had close to 500 event participants in the tax year of 2023-2024.
Consultation with he stakeholders is a very important part of each other our projects. After each workshop, company directors have one conversation with participants to find out what went right, what went wrong and what type of projects they would like to see being delivered next. Before some of the projects, such as "Outr Streets", the company invited and organised a 6-person focus group representing organisations such as Edinburgh Critical Mass, Infra Sisters, and Causey Development Trust to consult the community and find out its priorities and what way they would like to contribute and engage. The company directors are migrants, so they have lived experience of migration and connections within the migrant community, which allows them a unique insight into the needs of the stakeholders. Directors of the company are actively engaged with various stakeholders - other migrant focused organisations, Universities and NGO's and through these contacts and discussions, they learn the needs of the communities. Feniks, FCA, WOSP, Citizens Rights Project, European Citizens Forum in Glasgow, Sikorski Polish Club, Koniczynka, MAPA, University of Edinburgh, Glasgow University, Zero Tolerance. One of the directors has been living in Edinburgh Southside since 2007 and actively engages with the local community organisations and trusts (Causey Development Trust). Therefore, he is aware of the community's needs and aspirations.
