For the year up to August 31 2024, Living Mesopotamia was waiting for grant money to arrive (Grants arrived from Aliph and from the Cultural Protection Fund in September 2024). In that time, although not official work was taking place, preparations were made for the arrival of the grant, which included a visit to Iraq (April 2024), setting up of accountancy and project management systems to ensure that once the grant arrived, work could proceed. This was all done at the director's own expense. The benefits to the community included meetings with stakeholders (in person on April 2024, and online at other times) to discuss plans and project expectations.
Stakeholders include: The Grantees - Aliph (Geneva) and Cultural Protection Fund (UK) State Board of Antiquities and Heritage of Iraq Local communities Local and other involved professionals. Frequent consultation and discussion has been held with the grantees mostly online to facilitate the start of the projects Meetings were held with the State Board of Antiquities of Heritage of Iraq in Baghdad in April 2024, and at various times with local representatives online. Local community representatives and others, such as local academics were also met both in person in April 2024 in Iraq, and online, to discuss expectations and project plans.
