COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

MODER DY CIC

Company Number: SC613493 (Scotland)

Year Ending: 30 November 2024

Company activities and impact

Moder Dy was contracted to undertake a review of Shetland Museum and Archives maritime and fisheries object collection. This project began in November 2023 and was completed in April 2024. Since the completion of this project there has been no further funded projects. In October 2024 Dr Marc Chivers was invited provide a talk to archaeology students and members of the public at the Northern Archaeological Research Seminar Series hosted by the Department of Archaeology / School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen titled: Myth of Fact: Shetland’s Boats are Viking in Origin? During this period Moder Dy also put a funding proposal together to undertake a Shetland based fisheries project with our academic partner Dr Michael Stratigos, Department of Archaeology / School of Geosciences. Unfortunately this funding project was unsuccessful. Moder Dy CIC has had an extremly difficult year, and has been unable to obtain any funding to undertake community engagement projects. Finances are incredibly tight and it now looks as if this company will have to cease trading this year. To find out more about this important community work please visit our website www.moderdy.org.

Consultation with stakeholders

Meetings in person and online with stakeholder organisations: Shetland Amenity Trust, Department of Archaeology / School of Geosciences, University of Aberdeen, MSDS Marine, Department of Marine Spatial Planning, University of the Highlands and Islands.
