COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

THE CREATORS HOUSE LTD COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Year Ending: 28 February 2025

Company activities and impact

The Creators House Ltd Community Interest Company was set up to benefit the community, primarily adults, aspiring musicians and others/communities interested in the music industry in the Greater London area. During our third financial year (2024-25), we were fortunate to receive additional funding from the London Borough of Lambeth to deliver a free After School activity programme for school-aged children and young people eligible for benefit-related Free School Meals. Financially disadvantaged families are under significant pressure due a combination of increasing costs and low incomes, meaning their children are less likely to access organised out-of-school activities and are more likely to experience social isolation. The Creators House Ltd Community Interest Company devised this programme to create an experience for young people that was not only enjoyable and interesting but would inspire them to consider a career in the music industry by giving them a basic overview of the processes involved in music technology, studio mixing, creating podcasts and videography. We were also fortunate to receive further funding from the London Borough of Lambeth to run two substantial new projects to support disadvantaged children and young people. The first new project was created to run a monthly Podcast Workshop and Session for a cohort of six children and young people, between March 2024 and February 2025, with sessions being run on the last Thursday of each month after school, between 4-7pm. Each session included a 1hr pre-production workshop, and twelve filmed podcasts were produced and edited. Our second new project developed and delivered After-School GCSE and BTEC Level Music Technology and Theory sessions. Each session was attended by a cohort of up to fifteen secondary school children per session and was open to various secondary schools within Lambeth. Sessions were held weekly over a 10-week period between March and May 2024, after school on Tuesday evenings between 4-7pm. This was delivered through a combination of group lessons and 1-2-1 tuition. As an organisation based in Kennington, within the London Borough of Lambeth, we are proud to support and inspire financially disadvantaged young people from our local community to explore new skills in the creative industry, enabling them to have this experience free at the point of delivery, building their confidence, reducing social exclusion and feelings of isolation among young people who would not otherwise have been able to afford to access this activity. We are also delighted to have been able to support children and young people from local schools in Lambeth to support their academic achievement in GCSE and BTEC level Music Technology and Theory in an interesting and accessible way. Our priority outcomes include the acquisition of social and technical skills and the promotion of social mobility and inclusion within the music and artistic sector.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are the local community in the London area, particularly in Kennington, and the London Borough of Lambeth where our community interest company is based, particularly those interested in a career in the music industry. We have consulted with the young people from local families facing financial hardship who attended our After School activity programmes funded by the London Borough of Lambeth, to understand the challenges they face and the support they need, to understand what activities and content they most enjoy and find most engaging, what builds their confidence. We have used this feedback to tailor our future activities, to reflect our ethos of building social mobility and inclusion within the music and creative sector. We have also consulted with the Integrated Commissioning Team within Children’s Services at The London Borough of Lambeth to ensure that we met their requirements and objectives in terms of the After-school activity programme that they provided grant funding for, including ensuring that the appropriate safeguarding procedures are in place, providing monitoring information regarding participants, and providing impact assessments at the end of the project. We have built a good relationship with the team at Lambeth which means we have been well-placed to apply for additional funding to allow us to continue increase our reach and social impact to potential participants in the future. We have also consulted with the schools whose students accessed the After-School GCSE and BTEC Level Music Technology and Theory sessions, to understand how this met their pupils’ needs and the needs of the curriculum, again ensuring that nay feedback will be taken into account for any future cohorts who may participate in these sessions.
