In 2024, Esports Wales continued to grow its presence as the national body for esports in Wales sup-porting grassroots and professional esports across Wales. The company’s primary mission this year was to provide inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with esports, develop digital skills, and explore potential careers in the gaming and creative industries. Key activities included Welsh Esports League (WEL): The WEL expanded to include more local teams representing regions across Wales. The league provided structured competition opportunities, promoted teamwork, and nurtured emerging talent. Esports Wales Academy: The Academy delivered a series of educational workshops across Job Centres, Youth Centres, and Colleges. Sessions such as “Choose Your Character” and “Freelance and Finance” helped disengaged young people identify career pathways within gam-ing, media, and technology. Community Events: We organised regular online gaming nights and physical community-building activities such as walks, and local meetups. These events were designed to combat social isolation, promote well-being, and foster stronger local connections. Safeguarding and Professional Standards: A new Esports Leaders certification was piloted to raise safeguarding standards and professionalism within the esports industry. This project concluded successfully with strong engagement from clubs, schools, and youth organisations. International Representation Esports Wales managed the national EAFC team in partnership with the Football Association of Wales, and proudly representing the country in EEFand IESF in-ternational esports competitions. Cultural Inclusion: Welsh language engagement was embedded in projects such as the Gwent Is Coed and Cwm Rhymni school clubs, which combined gaming and language learning to promote the use of Welsh among young people. These activities have made a meaningful impact by increasing digital inclusion, improving youth confidence and aspiration, and building an ecosystem that supports social, educational, and economic development across Wales.
