Community Impact and Collaboration (CIC) Report for Wellspace CIC Overview: This Community Space has become a central hub for a wide range of initiatives supporting both the local and wider communities. Throughout the year, the space has hosted various groups and programs that offer valuable services, resources, and opportunities for connection, learning, and empowerment. These initiatives have been instrumental in improving the wellbeing of individuals from marginalized groups, fostering creativity, health awareness, and social inclusion. The space has not only served as a physical location for these activities but also as a critical community support network that amplifies the voices and needs of diverse populations. 1. Art and Craft Groups for the Local and Wider Community: WellSpace has offered a dedicated space for art and craft groups, which have become a vital outlet for self-expression, skill development, and social connection. These groups, which welcome all ages and backgrounds, have facilitated the creation of personal and collective artworks. For many participants, particularly those from lower-income or underserved backgrounds, these activities have provided an opportunity to escape from daily stressors and engage in a meaningful and therapeutic activity. Key Achievements: Over 150 individuals participated in various art and craft sessions throughout the year. The groups have displayed their work in the space, providing a platform for local artists to showcase their creativity. Positive feedback from participants indicates a noticeable improvement in mental health and social cohesion. 2. Painting Groups for People with Mental Health Challenges: In partnership with mental health organisations, the space has hosted specialized painting groups aimed at individuals with mental health conditions. These sessions have provided a safe, non-judgmental environment where participants could explore their feelings and emotions through painting. Art therapy has proven to be a powerful tool in helping participants express themselves and process difficult emotions. Key Achievements: A consistent group of 10+ individuals attended the painting workshops on a weekly basis. Participants reported a reduction in anxiety and depression levels after engaging in creative activities. Collaboration with mental health professionals ensured that the sessions were facilitated with appropriate support and care. 3. Bike Maintenance Workshops for Marginalised Communities: Recognising the need to provide practical skills to marginalized groups, the Community Space launched bike maintenance workshops for individuals from different backgrounds. These workshops have focused on teaching participants the skills needed to repair and maintain bicycles, empowering them with tools they can use in their everyday lives. Key Achievements: Many participants have since used their new skills to maintain their own bicycles, contributing to increased mobility and independence. Some participants have gone on to volunteer as peer mentors, teaching bike repair skills to others. 4. Free Meals on Special Holidays: WellSpace also recognised the need to address food insecurity, particularly on special holidays when many people may feel isolated. At the space offered free meals to local community members. This initiative provided warmth, food, and social interaction, contributing to the overall wellbeing of those who might not have access to holiday celebrations. Key Achievements: 40+ individuals received free meals during the special holiday events. Volunteers contributed in distributing meals, fostering a sense of community and solidarity. Participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share meals with others, reducing feelings of isolation during the holidays. 5. Women's Health Groups: Dedicated spaces for women’s health were created in the Community Space to support women in the local area. These groups offered workshops on a variety of health topics, including mental health, reproductive health, self-care, and physical wellness. The groups fostered a supportive environment where women could discuss health issues openly and receive valuable advice and resources. 6. Grant from North London Forensic Collaborative (NHS): In partnership with the North London Forensic Collaborative, the Community Space has been able to provide valuable support to individuals transitioning from medium secure NHS units. These service users, who often face significant challenges in reintegrating into society, have been offered opportunities for skill-building, social connection, and personal growth. The grant from the North London Forensic Collaborative has enabled the space to deliver tailored programs aimed at improving mental health, social inclusion, and overall wellbeing. Key Achievements: The grant facilitated a year of the creation of a safe and structured space for service users from medium secure units to participate in activities and engage in community life. 40+ individuals from NHS medium secure units attended workshops designed to support rehabilitation and recovery. Positive outcomes were reported in terms of social integration and a reduction in recidivism among participants. Conclusion: WellSpace has played a crucial role in supporting and uplifting vulnerable and marginalised communities. As the space continues to grow, the ongoing support from local organizations, healthcare professionals, and community members remains vital in maintaining and expanding the programs offered.
