COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

WAKE UP WALLASEY CIC

Company Number: 12043916 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 June 2024

Company activities and impact

The company runs a social supermarket in the local Anglican Church building to support the community, particularly those living in food poverty. Members of the community are able to ac-cess the shop and obtain food at approximately half the cost that they would pay in normal shops. This also helps to prevent food wastage as we purchase food from Fareshare. We have approximately 100 visits to the social supermarket each week and estimate this supports ap-proximately 250 people (2-3 people per household on average) per week. We have 8-10 volunteers who help out with ordering the food, setting up and cleaning the shop and helping people accessing the social supermarket.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders are members of the public, mainly those living in the Seacombe area of Wallasey, Wirral. The volunteers live in the local area and are part of the local community. We regularly talk to the customers to find out what type of items they would like us to stock. In addition, in the past year we have had more engagement from members of the community and more people are volunteering to take a more active role in running the social supermarket including ordering food and liaising with local businesses to try to access additional food and because they are integrated in the community they have a good insight into local needs.
