The company’s activities provide and benefit to those in the community of Beckenham (BR3) and surrounding areas that wish to come together to sing. This is a natural voice (non-auditioned) choir accessible to all persons over the age of 16, irrespective of musical experience. The choir provides the opportunity for members to perform in public, at local venues and events (resulting in revenue for these venues), to share music with wider members of the community. Throughout the year we had great outreach within the community via our social media pages with numerous membership enquiries and taster sessions offered and attended. We ended Year 3 with 60 active members, increased from 52. Over 23/24, the company has: - Produced 2 musical events in Beckenham (Christmas and Spring concerts). - Performed locally at Crystal Palace Bowl, The George Inn and The Bowie Bandstand in Croydon Rec. - Performed at Trafalgar Square at Christmas. - Raised money and awareness of 5 charities through local community performances: Everyone Matters Music, The Lunchtime Club (Penge), Parkinsons UK, Rethink Mental Illness and Dementia Cafe - all recipients were chosen by the choir members. -Provided employment for a Musical Director and local pianist. -Provided employment opportunities for several local musicians/bands and project manager. -Membership fees have remained stable despite cost of living increases. In renting the space, we provide income to Christchurch Beckenham.
The company's stakeholders are it's members, currently at 60 members. We have open dialogue with members about music choice, events and activities. All members are invited to complete a survey ahead of the annual AGM. We received good response to the feedback Survey as to the direction of the choir and music choice. Some feedback here: The social aspect, the friendliness, and feeling like I know people better from my community (recognising people and chatting when out and about in Beckenham too) When you’re learning just your part and can’t quite see how it would sound or fit, then hear it all together for the first time and it all makes sense: tingles! It’s a weekly slice of singing joy. And the stuff about feeling better leaving a rehearsal than when you arrive actually is true.
