Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 July 2024

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer returns, rebates and other similar allowances. Revenue from the sale of goods is recognised when all the following conditions are satisfied: -the Company has transferred to the buyer the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods; -the Company retains neither continuing managerial involvement to the degree usually associated with ownership nor effective control over the goods sold, -the amount of revenue can be measured reliably, -it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the Company, and -the costs incurred or to be incurred in respect of the transaction can be measured reliably. Specifically, revenue from the sale of goods is recognised when goods are delivered and legal title is passed.

    Other accounting policies

Taxation Income tax expense represents the tax currently payable. The tax currently payable is based on taxable profit for the year. Taxable profit differs from the surplus as reported in the income and expenditure account because of items of income or expense that are taxable or deductible in other years and items that are never taxable or deductible. The Company's liability for current tax is calculated using tax rates that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the end of the reporting period. Trade and other debtors Trade and other debtors are initially recognised at fair value and thereafter stated at amortised cost using the effective interest method, less impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. Trade and other creditors Short term creditors are measured at the transaction price. Other financial liabilities, including bank loans, are measured initially at fair value, net of transaction costs, and are measured subsequently at amortised cost using the effective interest method.

Company activities and impact

The Register of Tradeswomen is a ‘by and for’ CIC which provides a service where Qualified and verified tradeswomen are connected to customers. The mission of the CIC is to offer employment and training opportunities to female survivors of domestic abuse. Prior to setting up the CIC we have been in communication with Womens’ Organisations such as Women’s Aid and Refuge discussing the need for such a service. The founder is herself a survivor of DA and has a unique understanding of the affect this has. In 2023 in collaboration with a national network of women’s organisations we delivered our first DIY Champions course which was very successful. We have since delivered 2 more courses which have been equally successful, resulting in 20 new ‘DIY Champs Graduates’ We also run an event for tradeswomen to meet which addresses the isolation they experience. The event will take place in July 2025. We have already engaged 3 survivors with part time work on a freelance basis.

Consultation with stakeholders

We have 2 stakeholder groups; 1. female survivors of domestic abuse 2. Tradeswomen We are working in close consultation with the ‘Survive and Thrive Network’ they are a national network of organisations working with women survivors of domestic abuse, who meet every 2 months. Our discussions with them cover how we can a) provide tradeswomen to carry out work in refuges and safe houses and b) how we can enable those organisations to empower the women they serve by providing training in basic DIY skills and introductions to training in trades. We have created a funding bid guide pack to help organisations apply for the funding they require to enable them to have a DIY Champions course delivered to the women they work with. We are also in frequent communication with our local Women’s Centre and refuge. Because of the sensitive nature of this stakeholder group we always work with referrers and organisations working with survivors rather than seeking them out as individuals ourselves. In 2024 we began a collaboration with WINNER; a women’s charity providing several services for women survivors of abuse based in Hull. As a result of this we are now partnering with them and acting as consultants to a new charity WITCHES CIO (No 1203581) to provide a for women by women maintenance company that looks after housing provided for women survivors of abuse.
