During the financial year, our organisation made a significant positive impact on the local community through the delivery of Maidenhead Festival 2024, the largest free public event in Maidenhead. The festival was organised entirely by volunteers and welcomed up to 10,000 attendees over two days, creating a vibrant, inclusive, and accessible environment for people of all backgrounds. Key community benefits included: Support for the Voluntary Sector: - 22 local charities and community groups were offered reduced pitch fees, enabling them to raise funds, recruit volunteers, and raise awareness. - Initiatives like the "Stand Out for Autism Bus" and ear defenders for hire enhanced accessibility and inclusivity for individuals with additional needs. Volunteering and Work Experience: - 45 volunteers contributed over 350 hours to support the event. - Opportunities were provided to refugees seeking asylum and to a local photography student, promoting empowerment, skills development, and community integration. Promotion of the Arts and Local Talent: - 27 local acts, consisting of 258 performers, showcased their talents on stage, gaining valuable experience and exposure. - Fringe events such as the Battle of the Bands and Music on the Move gave emerging artists opportunities to perform across local venues. Economic Support for Local Businesses: - 65 market stallholders and 13 street food vendors benefited from increased footfall. - Local businesses were supported through advertising opportunities, generating over £3,000 in income via the festival cinema screen. Sustainability Initiatives: The festival furthered its commitment to sustainability by eliminating single-use plastic water bottles and replacing diesel generators with cleaner LPG units. Community Cohesion and Use of Public Spaces: The event promoted community spirit, goodwill, and inclusivity by offering free access to arts, music, activities, and entertainment, showcasing Maidenhead’s open spaces as welcoming hubs for all. The Festival remains committed to ensuring that its activities are accessible to everyone, regardless of social background, race, or religion, and contributes directly to reducing social isolation and enhancing community wellbeing.
