The company runs daily activities for the local community which includes: - Twice weekly Free Shops and Breakfast Clubs. - A weekly Potter & Natter Friendship Group. - A weekly Shed At The Bridge Centre Friendship Group. - A weekly Little Growers Stay & Play Session. - A monthly Free Shop Swap Shop. - A weekly Dedicated Growers Allotments Group. - A monthly Ditch The Tech Family Group. In addition, the company runs regular events and is SEND registered and holds HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) events. The company also holds workshops for Keele University Medical Students and is a 70 and 80 Day Non Statutory Placement for BA and MA Social Workers In Training for the University of Staffordshire. The company holds workshops for the local community, such as food preparation, gentle exercise, pyrography, flower arranging etc. The company grows food to give away to the local community and prevents food waste through the FareShare Scheme. The company also aims to meet unmet needs in the community and is run completely by volunteers and offers all services at the point of delivery for free. The company offers a system of exchange whereby people can return kindness through a donation of time as a volunteer, swap or exchange items that are no longer needed or a person can provide an act of kindness by Paying It Forward to someone else in need. During the financial year 2024-2025, the company’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: - local residents have attended numerous workshops, events, clubs and groups which is building a strong community spirit and encouraging people to engage on different levels - the number of “food miles” generated by producers and consumers of food in area has been reduced - the company has helped to support people at risk of mental health issues and is ‘prescribed’ by our local Social Prescriber and the NHS as an alternative to medication and/or ongoing treatment - people have learned new skills and have been provided with fresh food and the equipment with which to cook it - the company has trained a number of social workers in training and medical and pharmacy students.
The company has worked with VAST, Expert Citizens and various CICs to capture responses and opinions from people who use and access our services to become the lead on our Food Partnership Group for Co-design and Community Engagement. The company has hosted, and been asked to host again this year, an Impact Event which brings organisations and stakeholders together to inform future planning and development. We have signed up to the City Alliance which brings the VCSE and local Council together to support our communities.
