Black Women On Wheels (BWOW) helped its community during the financial year 2023-2024: Improved Access to Services and Events: Through income generated from various events like the BWOW 2023 Weekender and brunches (e.g., OXBO brunch payment), BWOW was able to fund and support events that brought together members of the community. These activities helped increase accessibility for women, particularly those in underrepresented groups, by providing spaces for social engagement and empowerment. Supporting Local Economies: BWOW’s involvement in various fundraising initiatives, such as the sale of cycling caps, contributed to local economies by encouraging small-scale production and local commerce. Local businesses that supported these events were also able to gain visibility. Promoting Healthy Living and Fitness: With activities such as cycling events, BWOW made it easier for Black women to engage in physical activities, fostering a stronger sense of community through fitness. These events, which are part of their core mission, empowered women to take charge of their health while building a network of support. Community Impact through Fundraising: The funds raised through various campaigns have been used to support charitable causes that directly benefit Black women, particularly those dealing with discrimination, mental health challenges, and limited access to opportunities. In summary, Black Women On Wheels, through its activities, has contributed to promoting a stronger, healthier, and more connected community, while also supporting local economies, creating awareness on social issues, and empowering women to live better lives.
Stakeholder Involvement: Regular Surveys: BWOW engaged with its community regularly via social media platforms to gather feedback on what they would like to see from BWOW. These surveys allowed the community to voice their opinions and preferences, helping to shape the company’s objectives and vision. By understanding the needs and desires of its members, BWOW could better tailor its offerings to meet the evolving expectations of the group. Clarifying Vision and Objectives: BWOW conducted two town hall meetings during the year to provide a platform for members to voice their feedback directly. These meetings enabled the team to clarify the vision and objectives of the organisation, ensuring that all stakeholders, particularly the members, understood and contributed to the direction of BWOW. The feedback from these meetings allowed BWOW to refine its approach and adjust based on the community's needs. Feedback and Engagement: BWOW regularly interacted with its community members through social media and in-person events, asking for suggestions on what types of activities and services they would like to see. This continuous dialogue allowed BWOW to remain responsive and adaptable, ensuring that their mission to empower Black women was always aligned with the needs of the community. Community Engagement for Product Development: BWOW engaged its stakeholders to gather insight into the types of events, services, and products that would best serve the community. Regular feedback helped the team identify popular areas for growth and engagement, such as fitness initiatives and social events. BWOW’s members played a key role in developing the vision for future events and campaigns, ensuring the organisation was always in tune with their needs. Vision and Objectives Clarification: Vision: The core vision of BWOW is to create a space that empowers Black women to thrive, focusing on fitness, health, community engagement, and social justice. Through these efforts, BWOW aims to foster a sense of belonging and solidarity among Black women, supporting each member in their journey of personal and collective empowerment. Objectives: BWOW’s objectives include: Community Building: To offer opportunities for Black women to connect, grow, and support each other. Health and Fitness: To promote physical and mental well-being through cycling and other fitness initiatives. Fundraising and Social Impact: To raise funds for causes that support Black women facing discrimination, economic hardship, and other challenges. Education and Empowerment: To provide resources, mentorship, and training that helps Black women advance in both personal and professional spheres.
