COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

CREATIVE COMMUNITIES (SOUTH EAST) C.I.C.

Company Number: 14274764 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

Creative Communities provides therapeutic art and craft courses for vulnerable adults within the community, including older adults with age related illnesses, such as Dementia, adults with mental health challenges, older adults attending day centres and resigning within housing schemes and adults with special educational needs. In the accounting year 2023/24 Creative Communities provided courses for over 200 participants across the local and wider community. In feedback collected from our participants for the same year, 100% of those attending our courses felt that the course had benefitted their general wellbeing and improved their life. 98% said they felt less lonely and isolated and attended for socialisation, and 90% said they attended to learn new creative skills and gain confidence. Of the participants that completed our mental health surveys, 90% said their mental health had gone from either poor to good or good to very good. A further 32% recorded an improvement of very poor to good or very good. Feedback gathered from staff at residential care homes and local day centres, claimed that 91% and 97% respectively, of their residents/ service users, claimed to enjoy the social aspect of the course and doing something creative staved off boredom and made them feel good and happy and noted improvement in their daily lives. They also liked that fact that they have something to take home or share with friends Our courses and workshops have had an overwhelmingly positive impact on the adults who attend directly, and also the wider community who benefit indirectly, this includes alleviating stress on the NHS through our links to socially prescribed courses. Participants tackle other issues at the same time as learning and creating. The benefits achieved whilst taking part in our sessions include (but are not limited to), tackling loneliness and isolation, boosting confidence and self-esteem, self-expression and reflection and the proven positive effect that being creative has on mental health and wellbeing.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are vast and include our learners; the adults who attend our courses, organisations who provide us with funding in order to run our provision and these include West Berkshire Council, Sovereign Housing, The National lottery, and smaller grants and bids. Other stakeholders include organisations we work with to put courses on, such as local care homes and day centres, social prescribers, partner organisations such as mental health providers, local housing schemes and smaller charities. We meet with our larger funders on a termly basis to review the offer and its effectiveness, review quality and paperwork, run lesson observations to check the quality of the teaching and learning, review safeguarding and health and safety practices and plan the following term. We collect feedback from our learners at the end of each course, which reviews how effective that course has been in meeting its goals, reviews their learning and captures data on how the course has helped improve their overall health and wellbeing. We also collect feedback at the ed of each course from any partner organisations we have worked with to put that course on. We prepare termly and/ or annual reports for our funders to review what we have offered with the money we have been given, how effective the offer has been, what we plan to do moving forward and also a collation of data and feedback from our learners. We also run annual research projects, where we review all areas of our district and look at what else is being offered in the community, where the gaps are, what is actually needed by the local community and how we can work with other organisations to ensure we are delivering the very best for the adults in our community. Every year we update our offer based on our findings and feedback from our stakeholders. We also provide prospective learners and families of participants the opportunity to give feedback through our website, this is also an opportunity for people to request courses we may not already be offering.
