Shademakers UK continue to design, produce and perform carnival, outdoor arts and performances.Drawing on participation from the local community , we aim to provide a platform for adults and young people through inclusive creativity and celebration using Art as a tool to effect social change. As part of our work as a National Portfolio Organisation of the Arts Council of England we endeavour to include all members of our local community regardless of age, gender, capability and faith. The subject matter we choose to portray in production and performance arises as a group consensus. We have focused our outreach projects on accessibility, engaging hard to reach community members and encouraging new audiences to engage with carnival, heritage skills and cultural activities. Shademakers UK CIC became a CIC in July 2015. There are 9 directors on the board and we have approximately 130 community members who regularly perform and volunteer with Shademakers.Governance of the company is achieved through quarterly board meetings and annual development days whereby an itinerant of the annual programme is discussed and planned. The board discuss activity and financial reports, monitor key performance indicators relating to Arts Council England. This year represents the 2nd of a 3-year funding agreement with ACE who have committed revenue grant until 2026. Funding for our activities and programme of work comes from ACE, Historic England, DCMS, Heritage Lottery Fund city councils and commissioned projects.
