"Over the past financial year, Lightbeam has continued to grow as a source of support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families. We have delivered weekly support sessions at our Sen Club that provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where children can take part in structured activities tailored to their needs, while families benefit from a sense of community and shared understanding. This project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Recognising the challenges of the current cost of living crisis, we have remained accessible and free of charge to those who need it most. We also provide free healthy snacks at each session to promote wellbeing and help ease financial pressures on families. In addition to our weekly clubs, we have distributed free sensory kits to families in our local community. These kits have supported children’s development at home and helped parents feel more equipped to meet their children’s sensory needs. Our future aims include launching a holiday respite club to offer families much-needed breaks during school holidays and provide consistent support year-round. We are also working towards securing a dedicated space of our own where children and their families can access regular SEN-friendly activities, resources, and events in a safe and welcoming environment.
